Interesting. I know if a value is a certain amount over something an such, you may have to pay more... not sure what that cap was..
All the years I went, only took a few cheap trinkets home.
Also, used to go on fishing trips for Canadian walleye(Pickerel), and great big boy northern pike & muskies in Quebec. Most of the fish (native livestock)-
we would use (eat) up there or release at camp on the isolated lake where we went. But occasionally we would bring a few back. They had a strict limit and you had to leave skin on so border could see what they were if they checked. Limit was small, and if you were over they'd confiscate, fine you and threaten jail.
But that was native sport fishing of course. Something different.
However, captive ornamentals- fish or corals, are still livestock of a sort and dutiable as well you would think..?? Are they controlled at all in any way?? Like other purchases, or possibly more stringent because they are "Alive" ???
I too am interested in checking out LFS in CANADA sometime perhaps.
So, this is something I wondered about. What are the current "rules" for captive "marine" livestock purchase on "foreign" soil and transport crossing borders?? It's very interesting subject to say the least.
Wouldn't want to spend hundreds to thousands or whatever, up there and find myself getting taken out of the car. Fined and stuff confiscated. That would suck.
As Posidion has said, anyone who knows or finds out about the details/regulations of this, let us know. Keep us well informed. It poses a good question. At this point I'd be nervous about doing it.
