Build log: My 360G Mixed Reef [56k beware]

Very, very nice...

So for 2011 you removed all your BTAs? i cannot see a complete pic of 2007 dont know why

Thanks :)

I removed a lot of the RBTAs and set up their own tank next to this one. There are still at least 7 of them in this tank and 2 GBTAs. They retreat every night a few minutes before the halides turn off. I took that FTS later in the evening and my anemones are very good with keeping time.

Heres the 2007 pic

I really enjoyed reading this tread, the DIY part is very impressive and so is the tank with it's livestock.

I would love to see another update!:lolspin:

Great thread and good to see it still running after all these years and she looks stunning! My first thought was that stand scares the crap out of me for that size tank but if she is still holding then she is good!

Didn't see the bump :) but thanks for the comments and the bump!

I have been out of state a lot and have been trying to remove all the softies from the system on the weekends. Something started to go downhill about 2 months ago and while I was moving stuff around I broke off some of the corals that have really matured :( soo... as we all know there are ups and downs. I just see it as room for improvement :P

So while the pics now wouldn't neccesarily do it justice the tank overall is doing great. The fish are nuts, the coral is growing, and the filtration is keeping up.

One of the things about being out of town a lot with a mixed reef is when I was here I could move sps out of the way of the anemonies. They killed a lot of my awesome colonies while I have been gone. I tore a lot of the rockwork out and moving stuff around in anticipation for some major changes.

Not wanting to get rid of the anemonies I did what I should have done from the start. A dedicated 40g breeder that is plumbed into the 360.

I had everything laying around except the tank which I picked up a few weeks ago for $20. Up until this I have been moving them into my frag tank (a 50g long) but it ended up turning into a nem tank and thats not what I bought it for... Right now there are 23 RBTA and 2 GBTA in this tank. About 7 RBTA and 1 large GBTA still remain in the 360 but soon they will be gone.

The stand is holding like a champ! :D Wood is crazy strong.

I will try to get some updates posted. Maybe I will try to focus on filtration, life support, and the fish this time around. I am also going to try and get some of my lost colonies back (always frag your corals!) get the softies out for good and really try to show some progress.

BTW some of these changes are in aniticipation for the next build. I'm going bigger and I want to get this tanks livestock down to sps and lps long before I take the next step. Still about 2-3 years out on that but this is for the long haul :)

Thanks again for the comments!

Hey Mark, just read through everything and really enjoyed seeing it all come together and become what it has, an amazing reef! Also very excited to see that the euro bracing has held up well and will be pursuing this on my 150 for sure now. Thanks for the tips in my thread about it!

Sub'd and will await updates

Awesome looking tank. What type of lighting are you using for your 40 breeder RBTA tank? Is there any tips to help make them bubble up? Do you feed them often?

Thanks and you are welcome. Glad I could help!

Oh my god! Thats a lot of BTAs! Wanna sell some?
Most of them are on the backside when I took that image  I think I am up to about 35... They split a few times after the move :). I take them into the LFS for credit pretty regularly. I might consider shipping a few although I don't rip them off the rockwork. I wait for them to walk onto the glass and then take them in so it can be random.

The BTA tank looks awesome
Thanks :)

Thank you :). I use a single 250w Phoenix 14k DE Halide in some random pendant. Its on an old icecap ballast. Good quality but not overbearing flow. They love the vortech! Stable parameters, good lighting, and small bits of food every once in while. I feed mysis to the clowns and let a couple pinches drift down onto them. Other then that the clowns feed them NLS Flake food daily.

I visited the CSP track on South Table recently and wished that I had been in touch before heading up there. Are you still living in the same place?

Very nice BTAs.

Yup the same place.

Just stop by Mike. Your always welcome. I am busy at work a lot so its best to see if I am home but if your in the area come on through :)

Also what are you doing on the CSP track? Hit me up in advance next time you go. I need to put the integra on it... Its stupid that I have a road course in my neighborhood and a race car in the garage. In 5 years they have never met... If I wanna keep my license I need to stop driving it on the street. 353bhp was the last numbers I got on the dyno ;)

My jeep pumps out a whopping 130.

Much appreciated. I was up there for a bike race. They open it for car races too? No riding/racing today though...we got a foot of snow down here in Highlands Ranch last night.

Wow, just wow. read the entire thread Mark, impressed. I'm from Denver and just started a new tank because of a shroom infestation. I'd love to buy some of your frags if they ever become available. My tank is currently fallow waiting to complete cycle.

Had to put some mickey tompson street slicks on it to keep traction... hooks up great now :)

Yea every once in a while. Looks like a blast. I gotta get up there.

Thanks :) Sure I will keep you in mind next time I frag the tank.

Took this video a few weeks ago of feeding on Rogger's reef food.

Last week I added a trio of Bartletts Anthias (Pseudanthias bartlettorum) and a Fathead Sunburst Anthias (Serranocirrhitus latus).

This week I ordered a Marginated Coralfish (Chelmon Marganalis) and a Scott's Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus Scottorum). They haven't shown up yet but are being delivered on Wednesday.

On black Friday I ordered a Reef Angel controller to replace my old Reefkeeper2.

I have been testing it for about a month now and am about to let it go live. The RK2 isn't bad and has been reliable so I let it continue to run things while I made sure everything was good to go with the Reef Angel. It is controllable through my Android cell phone, allows remote monitoring, and comes with a cool banner that has live updates.

Over the next few weeks I will be adding live salinity monitoring as well as Water alerts for leaky equipment.

Probably one of the coolest things in the works over the next month is live GPH flow rates of my return manifold and media reactor manifold. All three tanks and media reactors will have their own independent readings. Should be pretty cool to see it go live.

Text message alerts and live remote monitoring are great. It is comforting knowing the system is running smoothly when I'm not home.

I plan on adding a panning HD webcam soon as well. Hopefully something that can handle the lighting without going postal.

Picked up a new nem for the tank yesterday.
Its a Sunburst BTA. I Have been wanting one for several years. Could not pass up it up.

I would estimate the nem count at 24 RBTA, 4 GBTA with purple tips, and 1 Sunburst.

Being motivated I installed a t5 retro I never got around to installing. Its a 4 bulb 39w Tek. 2 Blue Plus and 2 Super Actnic. Seems to go well with the phoenix 14k pendant. This photo was a pretty good color but is a little dim. Best out of 30
