I bought one of these guys on Wednesday night, I am cleaning it up and replacing what I would like to while I go. maxi 1200's in the back, extended locline runs in the tank. I'll get some new sand and cherry pick my LR form the 75 for this tank. Should turn out well. It will start its vinegar bath tonight and maybe get some saltwater on Sunday.

If anyone know can I use any double ended halide bulb in here, 150W of course but I was thinking the phoenix or ushio over the JBJ bulb.

On my other tank I had an single ended halide and I stuck with 10K-14K mainly for growth reasons. I'm not looking to go 20K as I dont want a blue tank.

The hood also has two 9w compact flourecent bulbs that I'll be throwing new actinics in so I think that will give me the control over the blueness of the light.

Any tip or trick for running these tanks is welcome, I am excited to have a tank back in the living room rather than the basement.

After you get some water in it and aqua scaping done, be sure to post some pics. What are you going to stock it with?

My bulbs came in from premium aquatics today. I love them. Ordered on Friday here today standard ground shipping, I even got them to price match marine depot with no fuss.

Its my first DE halide bulb, the little "nipple" of glass on the bulb will face upwards in the fixture correct?
I also noticed that the bulb itself appears to have small air bubbles in the glass, is this thing going to explode?

I didn't touch the bulb so don't worry about that.

I should get the aqua scaping done tonight. I'll have pics when I am done.

Bulbs went in fine. I like the color. It has the 150W 14K phoenix with two actinic compact florescent @ 9watts each.

The moon lights are lacking, although not really important.

I put some eggcrate in for the rock to sit on and then added sand over the top of it. The eggcrate does not cover the entire bottom of the tank so things can still get around in the sand.

I added the rock I liked best from my old tank. Took them and a few pieces I wasn't sure about and started stacking them on the floor. Cam up with something fairly close to what I had in mind and then had to do it all over again in the tank.

The water was added and I threw another heater in this morning as one 50W heater wasn't enough. So now I have two 50W heaters. I hope that's enough because all I have now are bigger heaters that wont fit in the rear of the tank.

I might have some time to work on it all tonight but the next task is to finish breaking down the 75RR which is still for sale if you need a tank and rob the old reefkeeper from it so I can use it for my lights and heaters on the nano.

My wife took our camera to DC with the 8th graders form Columbia so I'll get some grainy pics with the video camera tonight.

Anyone with one of these tanks have a suggestion for more flow in the tank?

I think my old nano tunze 6045 would be to direct of flow. Might need to sell it to help fund a vortech purchase.

Lots of shots, took these with the video camera, it has very limited white balance on the photo side. I might tweak the rock on the left side just a bit. The tunze is small enough for me I think.

I even added some cheesey music with the video editing software.
Had to edit out the non-family friendly audio in the background.

I added the clownfish and my coral over the weekend.

Heat is going to be an issue with this system, the fans dont really pull air out of the canopy like I think they should. I may alter the internal airflow abilities of the hood.

The main issue is my reefkeeper is flipping out. I think my temperature probe is dead as once I set a temp it really never fluctuates which cause the heater to stay on all of the time. I am going to contact Digital aquatics and see about a replacement or if they think the problem could be more serious with the unit itself.
