building a 500 gallon plywood tank

Is there a parts list anywhere I can look at n figure out the cost of such a project. I enjoy building things n this thread has really interested me. How much did the glass run you?

its in and waiting ,,,,, waiting about a week to dry , and have to say after 2 hours after installing glass , i wanted to flip it over and run to my water hose , lol but im waiting

well its late on x mis day , about 9 pm and i added water , only added about 5 inches so can check bulk heads for leaks and its only few inches on glass , and my middle bulk head had leak , i only had to give another 1/2 turn on the nut and it stopped , this is why im happy i made the hole in stand 2 times bigger then the tank , so the nut goes right to the tank , at first i made the hole the same size and put the nut under the stand not the tank ,, now can spot it right off , was very slow leak , only drop every few mins , anyway i stopp adding water and letting that sit for a day ,,, my thought is this way slowly adding water till its full, i can kinda tell where it is on the tank if a leak pop up ,,,i have a plastic foot floating on water so kinda see water line ,,,, till tomorrow

Congratulations. You will always remember of ur tanks bdate being xmas day.
Mine was 7-7-12

yeah , lol which is good since i gat bad memory ,..... what we talking about about again , lol yeah i started x mis day filling it 1/4 a day only half full today so far so good ,,,, taken it slow cause can spot leak and where about it is if i do ,,,,

everything looks great...personally i would not build a plywood tank that didnt have internal 45* braces in every corner and a good bit of fiberglass mat/ cloth over every seam and corner brace...your entire tank is held together by screws essentially, and though they may be fairly strong in tension, they suck in shear, and even at that they are only as strong as the end grain of all the wood you screwed them into)i fear that any flexing/ shift in your floor or house may lead to catastrophic failure...500G of water isnt going to slow leak...

i wish you all the best and really hope nothing bad happens...

PS i love the red tank, especially for a shark tank, would work equally well in a piranha tank too..

thanks for the luck , and yeah i like the red too , its different , and different is good , who wants to be normal , lol and for the tank , they way i see it , its screwed and glued , and if the glue bonded right , its just as strong as one piepce of wood , and then you have the screws to hold it togeather and my tank i have the bottom and top wrapped with 2x4x that is screwed and glue to the tank too , for the tank to fail it would have to break the glue first , then the screws would have to break then the screws and glue on the 2x4s would have to break too , hopefully it wont , but time will tell.... and thats why i kinda started this posting to show my project , so if it goes good or bad , not just for me but to help others in their plywood builds , and thanks to you for reading and everyone that reads and give you thought , it helps us all for our main goal , and everyone main goal is to HAVE A BIGGER TANK lol

i thought i would have the filter and tank done by now since i dont go back to work till jan 2nd , but i been sick about a week , whole familt got kinda flu , been really sick , just now starting to get my strenght back , be while befor working on tank again

i do have a question for everyone for the top for my tank , i ran silicone everywhere in the tank ,, all the seem beside the very top seam ,from the tank to the top, i didnt want to silicone it till i know i didnt need to take it the top off ,incase had a leak,, , that bead will be over inch above the water line, but my question is , i only have the top part screwed down , should i glue it and screw it down so can never take off the top part off , or just use screws??? thanks for your in put
