UH......................

dont worry Glassreef, the internet is full of far more harmless smartasses than anything else :)

that lighting canopy and all the plumbing is looking fantastic. you've really followed through on keeping every element professional and clean looking.

out of curiosity exactly how high will the lumenbrights be above the water level? you have them so close together that spread will be excellent, there will be alot of overlap.

Thanks Ryan. The bottom of the bulbs will be 16 1/2" from the water - what are your thoughts? I agree, I'm counting on a lot of overlap. I'm not too worried about the front and back of the tank. My rock work will be modern (read: sparse) and concentrated on the centerline of the tank.

BTW: the shelves you built for your fish room - do you think the general design would handle 48" X 24" X 16" (75gal) tanks? I really love what you did and have planned to copy it since the beginning of my build.

16" is the perfect height for the lumenbrights, and thats if you have some space between them and need to fill the gap in light spread (like if I was going to use 3 of them on my 6' tank).

since you have 16" height and almost no space between 4 of them...

I think that's going to give some insane PAR numbers :) I wish I could have that kind of light coverage in my tank :) instead I'm having to go with lumenarcs because they spread the light a bit more . but the lumenbrights are unequivocly better in your case.

and having the 16" will help move alot of air and keep the heat from the lights out of the tank.

I missed the second part of your post somehow.

structurally, it could easily handle the additional weight. the 2x4s are supported from underneath by lumber, so I think it would handle alot more than 75g tanks. I did use some levelling feet for my frame since the garage wasn't flat.... if I was going with 75g tanks I might have gone a different route and used more heavy duty levellers, but thats the only thing I would change.

Of course the overall structure would also have to be longer to accomodate 48" tanks and all the space in between needed for plumbing, access, and misc stuff.

you wouldn't be copying much, since I pretty much got all my ideas from Sidewinder's tank build, but kinda consolidated his design into a 1/2 compact :D I still think that was one of the best designed fishrooms ever.

Hy from Brazil Mr GlassReef...
(sorry for my terrible english)
I´v been reading you tread and I´m really impressed with what you are executing... can´t wait to see your aquarium working...

At this moment I´m switching from a 150Gal tank to a new with 400 Gal and also Glass reef. (here in Brazil there is no option to acrilic)

My decision is to do a similar of your´s overflow system and as there is no one using it here I have to bother you with some questions:

1- How does the Euro-Bracing supports the back of the aquarium, considering the two slots for overflow ? What is the length of the contact of the Euro-Bracing in the middle of the glass ?
2- Here in Brazil, Starphire Glasses are an issue to glue with Silicone… they tend to do not adhere adequatedly… In US are you using Silicone also ore any other “glue” material ?
3- What is the glass size (don´t know if thats the right wai to ask... But I´d like to know how thin is the glass)

Bet regards and again... sory to bother...

Thanks for the info, Ryan. Do you have a link to any info about Sidewinder? I'm not familiar with his thread.

Welcome Carlos! Thank you very much for your kind comments. You have a very nice setup. I enjoyed reading your thread!

I'll try to answer your questions:

1. The Euro bracing along the back pane contacts 12cm, at each end, and 40cm in the center. That leaves two 90cm overflow slots.

2. Yes we use silicone. I am not aware of any problem using silicone with Starphire glass. Anyone else care to comment on this?

3. The glass for the aquarium itself is 19mm. The overflow box is 12mm.

Let me know if I missed anything.

SexyReef - thanks for the compliment

PaulieWalnuts - the senior citizen haze finally lifted and I remembered - the Sopranos. :D :D Sometimes it just takes me a little longer.

Looking Good. Have you checked your lights par yet?
Steve
Hi Steve! Sorry I missed your post. I've only only done a "play" check without water. I'm getting 1280 at the water line. That's with the bulbs a little over 16" from where the water will be. That should give me somewhere aroung 210- 230 at the bottom of the water column. I'll bring the meter to the meeting on the 22nd.

Edited: the first numbers I posted were for 12" above the water. Sorry - picked the wrong line from my notes. 1280 should still be fine.:)
