Building my Dream: It's a Miracles!

Hi,

ok I tried to contact vertex, probably i have to wait until Monday. But yes your reef is really a dream ;)

Greetings Chris

Quick update.
Due to Hurricane Sandy, my home was without power for 120 hours but thanks to a friend that didnt need a newly purchased generator the tank was without power for only 38 hours. During those 38 hours the tank was being circulated with one MP40 via ecotech battery back up. Temp dropped to 63.8 F. I lost power on monday 10/29/12 at 1 pm and got the generator hooked up Wednesday 10/31/12 at 3am. As of today, i did not lose any fish.

:worried2:
your getting there...looking great. did you add more rock? or is that the angle of pic?

That pic does make the tank look more filled with rock but it is just the angle.

One more note to add: Due to handling gasoline for the generator so much this past week i avoided puttting my hands in the tank and cleaning the glass. Today, i did clean the glass and noticed decreased coraline and increased hair algae. I contribute this to no lighting for 38 hours, decreased flow, general stress on the tank and decreased activity from my lawnmower blenny as he was cold. It took about two days for the heater to get temp back to normal, which imo is better than a quick increase.

I am pretty lucky. My only loss from Hurricane Sandy was the remission of coraline algae and the brief increase growth of hair algae.
Current Fish:
3 Yellow Tangs
3 Fancy Occeleris Clownfish
2 Blue Green Chromis (may be pairing)
Six Line Wrasse
Flame Hawkfish
Royal Gramma
Lawnmower Blenny
Diamond Goby
Yellow Watchman Goby

Also just added my first corals: 3 tiny frags of GSP, pulsing Zenia, and Zoanthids.

Changed rockwork in the middle today, got rid of the big cave and created more of a valley. I like it more as i believe it creates more depth and open swimming room. Hope you enjoy. Sorry for the crappy iphone pics

Glad that sandy was not more of a problem. My next tank is an in wall tank but I really like your rimless. Hard to be patient in this hobby.

I understand your pain. I have been staring at these two closets for years imagining the possibilities of two "in wall" reefs and side viewing panels at the window and connected together in the basement.

Only a true reef nerd like me would stalk the fedex delivery person. Trying Livesquaria out for first time. Fedex was late but all fish arrived in good condition and seemed to acclimated well.

she's not holding the box correctly. look at the arrows. :p glad they all survived. pics?

Petere
I noticed that also. Was thinking about telling liveaquaria and fedex bout it. It says right on box fragile this side up. Nice to have the evidence, proof is in the pic. I do have one anthias out of five that went mia immediately. Why is he hiding when others are schooling about. Kept lights off all day, hope to see him turkey day.

Thanks to all for the compliments on the aquascaping.
As I previously mentioned I overbought from BRS with 200 pounds of Pukani and 100 pounds of branch. I believe there is ALOT of rock in terms of volume in the tank now but im only using about 260 pounds. The Pukani is incredibly light. I originally wanted to go with more of a minimalistic style. However, I am very happy with the end result, so much so that it will be guiding me towards my choice of corals. I want to maintain the look of the aquascaping so i will be sticking to zoas, lps, and only encrusting sps.
Current stock includes some super small frags of zoas, pulsing xenia, gsp, favia, goniastra.

Very beautiful! Usually i prefer more opened scape but this giant rocks appeare very beauty in your scape, reminde me a truly piece of reef crest.
I can only imagine the beauty of the result after your plan of coverage with corals that you have mentioned.
Well done.
