Building my Dream: It's a Miracles!

Jt48. Nice Melongena corona !

You do realize they are predatory towards other snails ...

I would be inclined to replace with Strombus alatus if you desire other species of Gastropoda

No i did not know. Thankyou. Although it is my responsibility i am dissapointed that my lfs did not advise. The owner of a very well respected specialty salt water store sold him to me.

What would you suggest to feed? I am thinking clam, scallop, mussel being bivalves or would any flesh like shrimp or fish be okay?

Poor guy was hungry.

My JBJ True Temp Titanium heater 800 watt stopped working today, although the digital display and temp probe is still working. Heater has only been used since July. I think it may have burned out because it was underpowered. I should have app 1500 watts? heating system (344 gallon DT with 125 gallon sump).

I believe I should have two heaters, both for power as I believe 1000 watt heaters are the most powerful made but also in case there is a failure in one, there will be one working as a back up.

What brand do you recommend?

Looks like marine depot has mixed reviews from customers re this heater. Apparently the controller has failed and cooked several reefs. Can anyone explain why the 800 watt is rated for 160-260 gallons but the 1000 watt is rated 200- a whopping 3000 gallons? Or is this just a typo?

Your welcome, jt. I wouldn't get on the shop owner much, he likely didn't know better, as its not exactly well known information, or species for that matter, to say the least ...

The JBJ TruTemp is riddled with problem related to mechanical inconsistency/failures, ESPECIALLY the 800w model for whatever reason !

If you decide to go with this heater again, which I wouldn't advise, consider going with 3 of the 500w as they have the best track record. Two on one circuit/outlet, one on another ...

Just got back from store with two 300 watt eheims for a total of three 300 watt eheims in operation. The jbj is still under warranty, so that will be replaced.

Two newest additions: male and female Blue Throat Triggerfish app 4"
My PBT harassed the male for about 5 minutes and now they are all swimming together peacefully. I plan on getting a Pearly Jawfish after i add more rubble from my sump and a Mandarin Goby after a year or so when tank is more mature. Other than those two small additions i think i am finished with stocking fish.

I love the Bluethroats. I believe they are the most underrated triggers out there. Pretty much over shadowed by the Crosshatches.

Agreed, but if the crosshatch werent so expensive (pairs are priced at $1200+),i would have gotten them instead but then again maybe not. I understand juveniles can not be obtained and they always come in at around 6-8 inches. These blue throats are 4" and paid $72 for the pair.

What has your experience been with the miracle mud? Good, bad, what brand do you use?

I believe Miracle Mud which im using is the brand name. There are other refugium muds on the market. Even though i am using less than the prescribed amount (my refugium should be bigger ), i am happy with my success so far. I believe it would be more valuable to get the opinion from someone that changed over from a refugium using sand to the Miracle Mud.

This is a test, trying to learn how to post video from youtube so it is seen directly on the thread as opposed to clicking on a link and going to youtube. Tried to followed directions from Gimmito's 450 L-Shaped.

still trying to accomplish this from gimmito:
When you upload your video under it should be a share button. Hit that and you will see a short code that is highlighted. Underneath that is long code (in a box) that you need to copy and paste directly into your post. It will then convert into a visible YouTube video you can see.
