Building my Dream: It's a Miracles!

I believe this was just a homemade job. The bottom had blown out on me due to the stand not being level. I removed the broken bottom panel and replaced it with a much thicker 72x24 sheet of glass that i had lying around. Sorry i forget the caulerpra species i have (prolifera or mexicana)? And also some cheato. Chosen cause it was given to me for free:)

I understand that refugiums benefits are debateable and u need to take measures to help prevent it from going sexual which includes 24/7 lighting and regular pruning. I personally believe most refugiums are way too small to provide any measureable benefit to the system as my original refugium was. My original refugium was 1/3 of a 125 gallon(72x18?). Now its 100% 72x24. Once this increased refugium became established it lowered my nitrates from 3 to zero, lowered my phosphates (possibly to zero as i have trouble reading my red sea tests), eliminated cyano, eliminated bryopsis algae, greatly reduced film algae on glass, and greatly increased pod population.
Hope this helps.

Refugium Overflow

Refugium Overflow

Just read thru this whole thread. You have an amazing setup.

I currently have a 220 mixed reef with a 75 gallon sump. I want to add a remote 40 breeder refug and was wondering if the overflow you have on yours is noisy? Mine will be in room behind the reef, with the sump, so i would like to keep it as quiet as possible. But looking to have a similar setup as yours!

Are you asking if the overflow on my 40 is noisy? Yes. It is in basement and i didnt take any neasures to prevent the noise. The DT though is dead silent.
I think u will enjoy having a remote fuge. I am a firm believer in large fuges with strong 24/7 lighting and frequent pruning. I know if has worked for me.

Yea I was referring to the overflow on your 60g with the caulerpa. Any recommendations on what kind of overflow to use without buying one of those hang on the back ones or building an overflow box? Attached some pics below. Thanks for your help!

I finally got around to changing the screen cover for my tank. This was needed in part since i had lowered the height of the return pipe-instead of the return pipe going up an over the overflow teeth, i cut the overflow teeth for the return pipe. More importantly there was a major design flaw in my original screen cover in that it did not cover the overflow compartment. Fish were able to jump into the overflow and then jump out the tank. Several months ago i attempted to build a new screen top using window screen frame. I built two frames - left and right that was same shape of tank. Rememember i have 4 7" triangle corner pieces. That project was a failure as i had to cut the 90 degree plastic pieces that connected the window screen frames together, and make them 135degree corners. In the end the newly constructed 135 corners were not strong enough. Anyhow, here is my original screen cover using 1/2 inch cpvc.

Here is my new screen cover using window screen framing.

It is 6.5 feet long. If centered, i have 9" on each side with odd shape that needs to be covered. I need two more covers shaped like this.

Should i use:
A) Glass- Advantage- i have glass panes lying around.
Advantage-it will not bow spanning 36"
Disadvantage-condensation will build up on bottom
Disadvantage-i can see an accident happening with broken glass on
floor or in tank or scratching of tank.
B)Acryllic sheet-Advantage-safe and lightweight
Disadvantage- may be expensive depending on thickness.
Disadvantage-at 36" across it will bow unless its thick enough.
Disadvantage-condensation will build up on bottom
C)CPVC with netting-Advantage-i already have materials from old cover
Advantage- no condensation
Advantage-safe and lightweight
Disadvantage-aesthetics-one of reasons why i redid screen top in
First place.

What do you think? Thanks.

Its for the jumpers. I have anthias and wrasses. In the past i have lost a triggerfish, hawkfish, and anthias due to jumping.

I knew what you meant. I was trying to be funny. Guess it didnt work. I really should listen to my kids more.
