Bulk head for closed loop?

Can I use a bulk head for a closed loop system? I have a mag 9.5 and am going to be running th OM 4-way, now insted of having a thing of PVC sticking in my tank (which is what I do not want, thus the reason for wanting a closed loop is because I do not want a whole bunch of stuff in my tank) can I just drill a hole and have a bulk run the water to my mag pump?

That's exactly what I have done. The tank is still in the garage, but has been running with freshwater (testing) for about two weeks now.

I am using the OM Squirt, so the other three outputs from the CL will be with clear PVC and tick in the tank about 1" under the surface.

Thanks guys!!! I should probably place the bulk head(that will be bring the water from the tank to my pump) in the middle of the back side of it right?

So i just drill, add a bulk head and have the lead to the pump, then route pvc pipe to the OM and have the pipes from there go into the tank and I am good to go?

yeah, but im sure you know, but make sure the tank is not tempered and use alot of water to cool down the drill bit (if you havent yet look into drilling tanks in the DIY section before starting this endeavor). Also if i were you i would use Spa-Flex from the bulkead to the pump to try and quiet it down as much as possible.

for a mag 9.5, a single 1" intake bulkhead will be sufficient

Ok thank you.
Now two more questions...

Do I put a screen over the bulk head? what kind of material should I use and how fine should the screen be? and where would be a good place to buy it?

and...

Any recommendations of what manufacture of Bulk head shoudl I go with?

Ok, so that was like 5 questions, but it was more like a 2 part questions with "mini" questions attacthed. Please let me know the answers to these questions.

Thanks in advance.

A screen (strainer) is a must for an all intakes to protect your pump as well as tank inhabitants. They sell strainers for all size bulkheads, both slip fit,

Slip-fit strainer

as well as threaded;

Threaded strainer

I recommend the latter, with a bulkhead threaded on the inside of the tank, because it holds the strainer securely, while still allowing it to be removed to be cleaned.

hope this helps!
