Bulk Reef Supply Group Buy 5/17/2011

Is it cheaper for more quantity? Apples are always cheaper in bulk. Obviously they can't afford to discount every item. Best discounts are going to be the brs items they have. They set the prices for those items compared to namebrand items they pay for and then still have to make a profit on.

Like I said in the initial thread, you wont get a $400 item for $250. BUT, you will save a few bucks here and there. Your account will then be upgraded, so you continue to save. I bought mostly BRS items last time and saved $25. Since then, I've ordered from them 3 or 4 times. I saved a few bucks along the way. Over time it adds up. To me, its worth it. It may not have worked out to greatly benefit you his time around. No pressure to buy if you signed up. If you found what you need cheaper elsewhere, go for it. No harm, no foul.

Well Group Buy or not I am not going to pay more for items through BRS, but dont get me wrong I purchased my RO/DI system from them and I love it.

Yeah no sweat. I certainly wouldn't start out wanting to save and pay MORE. but it might be worth while to get your account upgraded to preferred after the buy. Its the continued savings that adds up that makes it worth it to me. This hobby is expensive enough. Saving a few nickels and dimes along the way is worth it IMO.

Last group buy I placed a big order. This time I'm only getting a few things. Hardly worth it. But I wanted to participate to help more of us get the preferred rating for continued savings.

Bulk reef supply supplies "quality" reefkeeping products at an already low price, not all items are deeply discounted for the group buy but they ARE cheaper than their regular price, and different items carry different discounts, I think that usually they give us the biggest bulk purchase price for each individual item ie... if a single item is 40 dollars for one then if you buy 10 of them the item will be 30 per and that is how they price them.
If you are confused my suggestion is to spend a few days researching the quality of product you found for a lower price and the quality of what BRS is offering and decide if a couple bucks makes that much of a difference for the difference in quality. In this hobby you get what you pay for unless a fellow reefer is extremely kind or hard up for cash. IMO the group buy is a wonderful thing and will utilize it any chance I get.

+1.

Most of the items that I have on my wishlist are between 10 and 20% off. One item wasn't discounted at all, but I didn't expect it to be because it was already on sale. Depends on what you're looking for I guess.

Your user ID on their site does say "(Reef Club Group Buy)" next to it, correct? I suppose there is a chance someone goofed up your account and you're not seeing the full group discount.

Yep, it says Reef Club Group Buy. My order originally would have cost about $193 and with the discounts its $189. And many items I have found $5-$10 cheaper at other sites.

Well I made a purchase, bought three items from another retailer for $105 total, this exact same order would have cost me $122 with the discount from BRS.

That reminds me of a time that I was shopping on the internet. No offense, but you've got 5 posts about how BRS isn't the cheapest site on the internet. It's not a big deal.

If you want to buy 2 part or kalk, a BRS group buy is a great way to save a bit. If I'm shopping for pumps I try aquacave, bulbs are usually cheaper at reefgeek, I've got two different sites that I use for salt mixes. Welcome to the web.

Dave, thanks again for setting this up for everyone!

First off let me say I like BRS and have purchased items from them including my Five Stage Plus RO/DI, which I love.

But everyone is going on and on about these Group Buys and how great they are, but it's not saving me any money and isn't that the whole point ?

I priced out 20-25 items that I would potentially purchase and the Group Buy did not offer a better price than I could find elsewhere, so why would I waste my time.

I appreciate Dave setting it up and I am happy for those that found it worthwhile, but these days with this hobby, its all about the bottom line. And whoever has the best price wins.

So you're upset because the discount you received from exerting very little effort doesn't apply to the things you want to buy? The site's name is bulkreefsupply, they specialize is discounting things in bulk. Price out carbon, GFO, kalk, and even rodi units, they'll be cheaper there. Besides simply for your email address, you now get 10% off for life. I think you're being a little ungrateful and expecting a little too much IMO.

Nate are you for real, did you even read my post. BULK reef supply or not they sell everything. And I am being ungrateful for not wanting to spend more purchasing through BRS ? Thats bizzare.

Noone's telling you to buy anything though! You're being ungrateful for filling this thread with complaints about their prices

Your unreal, obviously you just dont get it, read the "group buy" sticky, the whole concept from the beginning was to save money. Duh !

CJ, you're savings at any site will depend on what you buy. In all of your messages you've talked down to this buy without sharing with the club what it was that you found for less money (or where). Maybe it isn't your intention, but it comes off as rude.

Todd, thanks for the tip on the glue. I got the regular last time and wasn't happy with it. I'm going to give the extra thick stuff a shot.

Well I didnt want to mention other websites or people would have got mad for that. I am looking for some equipment, pumps, power heads, heaters, as well as other miscellaneous stuff . Again I was comparing identical brands and models and everything I priced out was cheaper somewhere else. Is what it is, no need to call me rude.

Ordered my stuff last night. Saved $12 on 1 item, that no other online store could touch. Might not be much to some people, but I'll gladly keep it!

Thanks!

Dave Thank you again for organizing the buy, It can be a hassle sometimes so wanna make sure you know its appreciated.
