bulkhead instalation

I just put a bulkhead for a drain in my sump, and for my purposes it fit best by placing the nut side inside (wet side) of the sump, with the gasket on that sied as well. I just water tested it and there was some leaking from around the bulkhead. Before I start messing with tightening and messing with the bulkhead (its in a tight place) is it possible to install a bulkhead this way or should I just reverse it?

You put the bulkhead it in wrong so it will leak. Put the gasket on the flange side. The flange can go inside or outside and the bulkhead will still work, but the gasket must be on the flange side.

I'll give that a try. I've heard that it is supposed to be on the wet side always, but that obviously isn't working.

Who ever told you that has no idea how the bulkhead seals. the gasket seals the flange against the object, with the nut holding it tight. When you put the gasket on the nut side, the water can leak through the threads on the bulkhead under the nut, through the hole and out around the flange. It will not seal that way.

I have also heard that you can remove the gasket and apply a silicone bead all the way around the flange (make sure there are no air bubbles) and this creates a tight seal against the glass.

put the silicone behind the flange.. tighten the "nut" down but not to tight, just enough to hold the flange in place snug. wait 24 hours then tighten the nut more. bingo a good seal. found that it lasts longer than the gasket
