When installing the bulkhead fittings,is it adviseable, as an added measure, to put silicone around the hole where the threaded part of the bulkhead fitting goes though the glass? But not on the rubber seal.
I wouldnt use only silicon, I would use thegasket supplied with the bulkhead, it will seal more correctly this way. Silicon would make it very difficult to get the bulkheadout if you ever have to and it might not seal as well.
Silicon can be used as a gasket but for bulkheads you would have to goober it up.
Hi Blown346, thank you so much for your advice. There is so many things to consider, when you have drilled holes in your tank.We were thinking about leaks, and not what if we had to do a replacement. thanks again
I think it is a matter of opinion on the use of silicone. I have used it on all my bulkheads along with the supplied rubber washer. I have had problems when I did not use the silicone. But again it is all preferance I think!!!!
Ive got gaskets on inside and outside of mine. I am using Hayward bulkheads. Very nice bulkheads IMO. I paid $17 a peice for them and they are worth every penny.
