hi roger im from over the pond in raining england . Iv'e got (or did have)a 7180-2 . I thought these were thermostaticley protected , i went a way for a few days and the top up decieded to give up and the 7180-2 just melted when the water droped below it. Its got a huge ballon coming from its side and so warped you can't get the impellor out. As i said i thought these were protected so when water drops a buz comes from blue box and it shuts down please advise as pump is only 2 months old cos it was a replacement for when i cut through the cable getting the original out, so bit peved at the moment.

On the electronic pumps the protection is only in the transformer and driver. Still this is very strange. The driver should have sensed a run dry and stopped the pump and the transformer can only put out 65W before it shuts off or heat to 100C. In both cases it will shut off. While I suppose it is possible this is not something I have ever heard of. I would call Tunze in Germany or send it to them. Post from Britain shouldn't be very much. They should replace it for you as something unusual must have happened. Their is a blind spot between the poles that the driver cannot detect any data from the pump and while the odds of hitting this spot are about 1 in a 1000 it is possible especially if it stopped and started for a couple days. This is a difficult one because the pumps are not supposed to run dry and all thermostatic switches and impedence switches can be defeated after so many off and on cycles but I think they will replace it.

roger i run this as a filter pump in sump so its on all the time ,no pulse. can you give me tunze german address is it ok to write it in english and should i send all the three items ie ,pump driver, transformer

It is the same, 7240 replaced 7180. I would send it all and explain what happened politely, they speak English well enough. The address is

Tunze Aquarientechnik GmbH
Seeshaupter Strasse 68
