butterflies in reefs

anyone kept Chaetodon semilarvatus from the Red Sea with corals? One of my favortie butterflies-wasn't planning on getting one, (tank is too small) just wondering. Looking into a Yellow Longnose Butterfly!:inlove:

i'm so happy this thread is still going strong!

my butterflies are all still ok and so is the tank and corals.

here's a latest video to show how everyone's doing!

watch it in 720p.

i'm toying with the idea of some angels in there too if the tank space allows me.

your tank looking great lemon...i only see 1 paucifasciatus...but you got 2...are both ok..?

what's the fish that comes after 2min mark hanging under rock and then joined by his mate...?

auem,

yes i still have 2. the other one is shy and doesn't want to show itself. they are not a pair apparently. they do not fight but they are clearly 2 individual fishes doing their own thing.

the fish under the rock is Priolepis noctura.

an uncommon goby that is very cheap here but quite difficult to find.

Whoa Lemon, that looks awesome!!

Its nice to see beautiful corals surrounded by gorgeous fish!!

That goby is adorable!

Lemon the tank looks great! well done !

What species of anthias are in your tank?

it's the undescribed pseudanthias.

Pseudanthias cf. marcia.

i believe i saw you commenting on a thread just for that anthias.

there's a pair in there and the male spawns regularly with the female. tail turns bright red when courting.

Ahh that is what i thought excellent fish i have 4 and they display often and not nearly as aggressive as squampinnis

very impressed with your wrasse and butterfly collection!!

thanks!

i agree with the anthias part too.

i'm actually NOT a fan of anthias.

there's only a few species that interest me.

there was once a Pseudanthias leucozonas appeared in one of my LFS as an accidental import along with some borbonias anthias. it was sold for about 19 USD but no body wanted it. it died soon after due to neglect. a waste chance since that's ridiculously rare. never appeared again.

i want Pseudanthias flavicauda but they never make their way here too.

the cf marcia was kinda funny. i was in hong kong when i saw it in one of the LFS. i did not know what it was and thinking it was rare, i bought it. when i came home i wanted to find a female for it. ironically, the LFS that i go to every week had a whole tank full of the females which was there for a good 5 months at least. no one knew what they were because they were faded in colour and all females. finally one turned male right about the time i bought mine and knowing they were females of the same species, i bought one.

anyway sorry for the off topic post :)

There were some quarantine questions that weren't all answered. Are you guys quarantining the butterflies before putting them in the reef tank and if so, for how long; and did you treat with Cupramine and/or PraziPro during that time as a precaution?

Thank you.

So far my Threadfin has had 0 interest in the hammer I have in the tank. Unfortunately, he also has had 0 interest in the Aptasia, forcing me to buy a file fish. When he gets out of QT we'll see if hammer is back on the menu boys... My yellow tang, now deceased bicolor angel and the threadfin were all best of buds except for the occasional tiff..The threadfin wasn't afraid to show his spikes and charge.. I've got everyone crunched in my 90gal and everything is fine so far... I would like to add a few more corals as test victims... Thanks for this thread as I have been very interested in keeping butterflies with some tangs I have planned for a bigger tank...

Most dodged question in this thread and others. When it does get answered its real brief.

All my butterflies have been QT'ed. Some for as little as 2 months, most longer, to make sure they were eating frozen/prepared foods very well. I use cupramine at very low strength with butterflies, and prazi. Nitrofuracin Green Powder is also an excellent med for those weird, unknown infections butterflies like to get ;)

Not sure if I am repeating myself or not :)
