buy recycled co2 tanks?

Just doing some research on Co2 Tanks.

5lb. Co2 tanks seem to be around $75 + shipping online, but I know that one way to get them refilled is at a welding place where they just exchange your bottle. That bites since you'll be losing your pricey co2 tank, and unless you find a place that fills it up, you're plumb out of luck.

Is there a way to buy one of the beat up "recycled" co2 bottles at a welder's for much cheaper?

Most of the welding supply shops sell a 5lb tank for about 45... There is a place in dublin that has 20lb tanks for 118 or so out the door filled.. If you have a hard time finding any let me know I'll see if I can find a link for you.. I think there is a fire extinguisher place in San Leandro that had some great deals as well..

The place in Dublin would let you upgrade to aluminum, a larger size or a new tank for a minimal charge...

Do you still have that mj 900? I'm still interested in it.. Let me know when you are back down here in the bay.. I'll be gone all weekend but will be back on monday...

haha neither am I mike =)

I'll keep researching some too. I'll keep you updated on what I find =)

btw thanks fisnfst for the great info!!

Hello Mike do you keep planted tanks as well? I am breaking down a couple of tanks if you are looking for any plants in particular...

Mike, check out Hansen Fire (something or another)

Dudley - help me out here.

I would get a tank, but they are only open Mon-Fri. They are located in San Leandro I think.

Oh wait...10 lb co2 tank and co2 for 65 dollars at Hansen fire equipment in San leandro 510 357-9982. Price may have changed a little but can't be that much.

In SF, go to SF Brewcraft on Clement ST.

http://www.sfbrewcraft.com/

Call them first, of course. I bought my used 20lb tank filled for 70 or 80 bucks.

NOTE: 20lb tanks weight like 50 lbs or something! And they are rather large (think scuba tank). My tank was recently hydro'edbut also about 30 years old (!!)

Brand spankin new one's that are filled (at least at Brewcraft) was roughly $110 or so after tax for a shiny new filled 5# aluminum one.

Air Gas and Praxair charge a ridiculous amount for a ten pound co2 cylinder.

You can get a brand new 5lb cylinder here for $57. Then go to Carbonic Service in Santa Clara and get it filled for around $8. I have that cylinder, it's very nice, and Carbonic Service is a cheap easy place to get it filled (not exchanged).

Yah, Hansen's. I went there for my CO2 for brewing/kegging stuff. Inexpensive too. $8/5lb refill. Haven't gone in a year or two though.

Hansen fire on lewelling across the street from save max in
san leandro . Call ahead to make sure they have tank avaialble. I had to wait a week for them bring one from sacramento. I paid like 60 bucks for 10 lb used tank/certified and filled

I just want to give you guys the heads up that Hansen Fire Equipment has changed ownership and the prices have changed. Just 2 weeks ago I brought a 5lbs bottle to fill and it cost me a little over $20. I guess I should have asked first before I got it filled. Reason I didn't ask was because I had a 10lbs filled there 6 months ago, and it was about $15, so I assumed the 5lbs would be cheaper. WRONG !!!! Don't say I didn't warn you :D
