Buying Fish from AS or OB

Ok, so this doesn't become a bashing thread, would you please pm me your comments? I want some honest opinions, but don't someones comment to offend any sponsor.

So to the question, have you ever bought any fish from either of these stores? I've heard both good and bad, and interested in what your opinions are. Thanks!!

I think I've told you before my feelings on this but to generalize in a good way, I think it really really comes down to the individual buyer and potential specimens.

You need to evaluate the health of the specimen and make a good conscious choice to pick out "a lively one!" so to speak versus that dream fish you might want that is half sucked into a powerhead because you might be able to save it. A lot of the good advice i've been given has been "don't do sympathy buys, more often than not you'll waste your money"

that sort of applies to nearly any animal I suppose!

Make sure you are comfortable with where what you buy comes from and confident that you can take care of it. If you can't truly do that then it may be worth waiting to acquire what you want somewhere else - this applies to any and all stores, online or local. It is kind of our duty to have good husbandry and I think it starts out from cherry picking the best we can for our tanks.

I have fish from ocean blue that are over 4yrs old. Most the fish I have gotten from them have been great. But like chrisstie mentioned make sure and its eating and that it looks good no matter where you buy it from. I dont think vin would be in buisness as long as he has if he was a repsectable buisness.
