Buying Maricultured Pieces

I've noticed they tend to be cheaper on different sites. Why is this? I read a post that most Bali collected pieces have AEFW on them? Is this true?

Thanks.

I guess retailers make their own prices. Usually marked up 100-200% from what they paid though. I can tell you first hand that some Maricultured pieces have AEFW. I picked up some nasty AEFW from indoneisa maricultured pieces. I will never buy another maricultured coral. Ever, ever, ever.

I have some nice mari-cultured pieces and always dip my sps. Never found AEFW though, guess I got lucky. Brooks I'll mari-culture some sps for ya if you like!

i think the best, natural and greenest option for the hobby is the maricultured corals, only needs some dip but for my opinion is better.

IMO I don't think maricultured corals are all that green
there are thousands available I've seen pieces with dozsens of
branches that are encrusted to there plug just about the size of
a 50 cent piece
there just wild cut chop shop type corals I think

You should dip EVERY coral before you place it into your tank. You can't see AEFW if you don't know what you're looking for and there are a bunch of us without qt tanks. Dips do not hurt the coral, I prefer TMPCC

Wild chop shop gives the locals a way to make money off reefs, and gives them a reason to conserve the corals that they get the frags from. Plus you dont burn 6 bajillion tons of coal to provide the energy to grow them before they arrive in your tank unlike all the corals we trade. Maricultured is probably better in the grand scheme of things than getting one grown in a tank in this country.

Maricultured is better for the reef it does less damage to take a frag from the reef instead of the whole colony. If every coral collected was maricultured there would be alot less damage to the reef and its job creation for the native people.

If its a brown out or has recession then I would not buy it . If I buy maricultured I dip and frag the coral from the plug because this is where the eggs are usually at. Then remount it to your rock.
