buying zoanthids on internet

So my LFS doesnt have a huge selection of zoanthids. I was wondering what peoples experience have been with buying zoanthids off the internet....good or bad??? Thanks!

I've never bought off the internet, but I can say that online retailers really have it down to a science and many people buy livestock online successfully. Two things 1) you will have to take a day off work because you need to be home when the shipment comes to your door. 2) Of all the coral out there zoas are probably the most bulletproof. Any reputable dealer should also offer an arrive alive guarantee, but you have to be on top of this because it works with the time the delivery man drops the package. You have a certain amount of hours to file a complaint. Online stores cannot be responsible for people having UPS drop live packages on the doorstep for 6 hours :)

with my experiences online, it's the only way to go! you can definitely get things that no one else locally will have. And as prev poster said, they ship very well! as far as delivery goes, i usually have them sent to me right at work. Take em home and temp acclimate for a few and im good to go!

another thing you can do is have them ship hold for pickup at your local fedex if they do I have mine sent 2nd day Fedex hold for pickup it's cheap $17-$23 I go pickup at fedex at 9:15 am when they open take them right home and acclimate them. 2nd day has not been a problem with the zoas and palys I've been getting.

I've bought lots of zoas online with out any issue (Live aquaria, Reef Hot Spot, Blue Zoo and some others)

Depending on the time of year I may not even worry about being home to get it with zoas. They are generally very resilient and the online shippers generally do an excellent job with packing and accommodating for the weather

Best place IMO is the propagated coral selling forum here on RC. I've bought really nice and rare polyps for a great price a lot less than I would have gotten at a online vendor or LFS for a Per polyp price.
I have also bought from Online vendors and have great results.

Make sure you look at the background coloration when buying online. There are some stores that do a fantastic job in taking pics. If you don't run alot of actinics and thats what you see in the backgrounf most likely it won't look like that in your tank.

+1 on buying from individuals from RC.

Either run a lot of attinics or they are using 400, 600 or stong amounts of MH/ multiple amounts of T5s that most aquarist don't use. Most I believe use 150-250 mh which you couldn't get that coloration and look against a 400 and up mH using 20K etc...
