C-Sea Site - getting there!

Anyone else having trouble with the resolution?

Also, Erik, pre-bought templates aren't needed for doing things like that. If everyone wants a change, it can be done. Right now I wanted to get information and basic structure together.

thx!!

Getting the info on the site is one thing, job 1 IMO, but making it look good and professional should be goal number 2. Something that grabs your attention not something from microsoft frontpage. IMO.
Its alot of work, Im not bashing you or the site at all amy, just giving input.
The template thing is something worth looking into, if not buying it, kinda coping what has been done.
Or why not just update what Paul already did. His layout and site was really nice, just needed updated and more features? The look was great.
Erik

I agree with Erik

1). Font is small
2). Not attention grabbing
3). A template would make for a more professional site
4). More banners and pic of saltwater related icons

Please this is constructive criticim, i aplaude your advances

Andy

No problem folks..I agree there is a lot to be done, and I want to get a really good quality appearance/professionalism too. Give it time while I get some other things going on it first. Anything can basically be done, just some priorities I'm getting out of the way.

Also, hit http://www.c-sea.org now, we're on.

Here is a good chemistry calculator
http://jdieck1.home.comcast.net/chemcalc.html
and how do you want picture sent to you? Thanks, Tim

Morgandy:

If you want to link to the calculator it is OK but the link you were provided above will only link to the traditional calculator which is being replaced within the next 4 to 5 months into the flash version only
Please use the following:
http://jdieck1.home.comcast.net/chem_calc3.html

You may also link to the system volume calculator:
http://jdieck1.home.comcast.net/volcalc.html

And the Calcium Reactor Setup Help page:
http://jdieck1.home.comcast.net/reactor.html

Thanks and good luck with your new site.
Jose

Erik,

let me know if the font size is any better yet, I'll keep working on it. Also, I have done some further changes to formats and such, BUT, please just give me some time to get it where we want it. All ideas are really welcome. Everyone, test the links, make sure things work okay, some are still not ready yet.

Jose, thanks for those..how do they differ from the RC calculators? I haven't had chance to try them out yet.

Okay, I better do some real work now! :)

Jose, thanks for those.how do they differ from the RC calculators? I haven't had chance to try them out yet.

RC does not have calculators for Reef Chemistry nor for Calcium Reactor setup. RC's calculator for volume only handles rectangular tanks without consideration to the rest of the system nor to the amount of rock or sand. while the one you will be linking too can handle 13 diferent aquarium shapes plus sump, refugium, frag tank and so.

By the way a couple of tips on font size:
Due to the lack of discipline and standards in the industry different browsers and computers may handle fonts differently or may not have the required font available at all. To make it worst the client can setup the font to different sizes directly in the browser options this might drive you crazy trying to please every one but there are some alternatives
You could either:
a) If you are using stylesheets / CSS use the CSS to define the font as a % rather than PX (pixels) or absoulute size (1,2,3 etc.) that will set the font size to a % of whatever the client has the browser font set at.
Also in case the particular font you are designing for is not available in the client's browser, you can set more than one font face type. Use commas like <font face="helvetica, sans-serif, impact"> in this case if helvetica is not available the browser will default to your next setting (sans-serif) in this case.

b) Setup your screen design to the most popular size (1024x768) and set the view text to the mid range size, that will cover most clients. Those clients using higher resolution will either prefer to see more of the page at once anyhow or know how to reset their font for larger size with a couple of clicks from the mouse. You can also add a note saying something like "this site is better viewed at 1024 x 768 resoulution"

c) A pain in the butt but if you are really into it (I was never that good) you can set up instructions to identify the browser the client is using and it's corresponding screen resolution and using instructions for the particular browser you can setup the table size to fill in the screen width.

Keep up the good work and enjoy it while you are at it.

Amy,
Check the heading title. I think it should read Association instead of Club?

jdieck,
Thanks again for the great calculators. They come in very handy for most of us.

Thanks Josh, I had it wrong on something, then I fixed, but used the old page.

Jose, I'll get your links in tonight probably, and, a bunch from the old site plugged in.

I'm psyched about the forum/chat/user account stuff I'm working on..so keep ideas/corrections/whatever coming to me, but I'm going to be focussed on something else in between.

thx!!
