Ca reactor flow meter

That price is insane! I contacted MTC, the makers of the Pro Cal calcuim reactor. They quoted me something like $60 for thier flow meter.

Yea, $120 for that flow meter is nuts. There has got to be a cheaper one. Does Dwyer make a low flow flow meter?

Chris

I have been looking for a decent low flow meter for a couple years, and they are all $60 or more :(

Most are medical grade, of glass and SS. Didnt even save the websites after seeing the cost

I just kept Googling low flow meters and different variations of that.

Maybe such low flows are harder to accurately measure, vs slightly higher flows? OR, simply not the large market to build enough of them to be cheap like the Dwyers.

The flow meter quest

The flow meter quest

I have been searching for flow meter/transmitters for my new tank design. I need the transmitter part most important for control and data logging. Dont' know if these will help, but here is a low flow one for around 33 dollars:

http://www.xoxide.com/koolance-coolant-flow-meter.html

and here is a high flow meter/transmitter that I just purchased:

http://www.dwyer-inst.com/htdocs/flow/SeriesSFI-800Price.cfm

I have spent probably 100 hours on the web looking for flow meter/transmitters that will work in a salt water environment. There many out there, but they all cost between 220 to 350 dollars. I need four for my closed loop and would like two more. They are only 70 dollars each, but it adds up quick.

Hope that helps a little. Either of the two above can be purchased with or without the transmitter.

Flowmeters, Rotameters, and Flowswitches for Saltwater applications are very expensive. Worth the money if the flow you are measuring is critical, but I have yet to find any flow measurement in my system that is "critical" to the point of needing an expensive device to measure it constantly.

You are probably right about not needing any flow data. It's just that I am going for total automation, and figured lets do it up big time. Plus, I'm an operator at a refinery, and I like all the data that comes into the board. I don't really need it on my aquarium, but I WANT it! :D :D :D

I use this type of flowmeter for my reactor. It goes from 0-100ml/m and made by Blue White Industries model 750FL.

The flowmeter in the reefmania reactor linked above is a Gilmont unshielded glass Direct Reading Benchtop Flowmeter w/ PTFE Fittings and glass float. Cat No. EW-03230-13 tube size 13 capacity 0 to 300 ml/ht H2O

Distributed by Cole-Parmer www.coleparmer.com Price $82.00

Excellent piece of equipment, no metal parts at all. easy to connect with hoses to insert by 1/4" tubing John Guest fittings to connect to 1/4 polytubing (like the tubing for RO/DI).

For effluent flows below 40 ml/min I woul drecomend the Cat No. EW-03230-13 tube size 12 $95.00

Excellent piece of equipment.

Looks good Loc. I emailed Blue White Industries to see what price they could get on that flowmeter.

jdieck,
Those look nice, but they are expensive.

I realize now that you are talking about the effluent flow. The meter I am really looking for is for the CO2. Its very hard to find one with this low of a scale.
