CAD Lights Mini Series Owners Thread

Tank should be here friday. Ordered mj600 with a spin stream? Will this be enough flow? Already ordered LEDs from nanobox.com.

Got water and rock in my 8G this weekend.

I am thinking about ordering this tank for my nightstand. How are you liking it so far? I want to transfer some sps over from my 60 cube eventually so I was thinking about the razor nano led.

I like mine so far. Razor would wirk. I looked at that but went with nano-box-reef due to full spectrum and smaller footprint.

Hi! I have the 18 gallon cad lights tank but with different lights (r420r nano). It's not set up yet. I'm waiting for my stand cabinet to be delivered.... Soon enough I will update you all.

Snowgrl, I've got the same setup over my 12Gallon Cadlights tank! Except it's the 60W nano version. Still more than enough light for enough SPS in the tank!

So you just need to order the lights and controller? Does the light simply connect to it or do you need to order other wires?

Yes, the lights are powerful indeed. I've noticed some of the frogspawn starting to bleach a little under the r420r nano in my 20 gallon so I've had to tone it down a bit

Alright, so I have my CADlights Mini 18gal, with r420r LED lights set up. I have a small submersible light for the back of the tank that will grow chaeto (the light has been ordered.... just waiting to receive it any day now). My next equipment purchase is either a skimmer, an ATO or a carbon/GFO reactor.

I've had a skimmer in my old tank, however, it died. It was a tunze 9002. It had noisy days and silent days and productive days and not so productive days. I had a hard time getting it to be consistent with the skimming. Maybe because I was bad with keeping the same water levels at all times.

Anyway, that skimmer is long gone now. I was wondering what you guys think would work best as a skimmer for these tanks. HOB skimmer or something that I can stick in the 'sump' area of the CADlights mini 18. The chambers are narrow and only 5 inches wide. Now sure what could fit in there...

What about reactors or ATO?
I would really like an ATO.... I like to leave on vacation for a week without worrying about evaporation too much. Are they reliable? I'd worry about coming home and the ATO not working so well and having a flooded floor :S

Right now, for GAC and GFO, I just stick a small media bag with a spoonful of GAC and another spoonful of GFO in the back of the tank. I don't have an algae problem yet....but in anticipation of one, I want to be safe ;)

So which piece of equipment do you guys recommend that would fit this CADlights mini 18??

Lol, not exactly the best time to ask for a pic. The tank and rocks and sand have just been added, i haven't even aquascaped it yet. Im waiting for the new sand fog to clear up before i do anything. Here it is with the lights. I used a biocube 14 stand as a cabinet. Its perfect.

Haha yea sorry I guess not. I was just wondering how the spread looked over the 18. I was looking at the biocube 14 stand as well but it states online the dimensions are 15.25x12.75 and the 18 is 16x16, correct?

Yes, so for the light you can adjust the height and length of the mount depending on how you like it. I must say that the mount is flimsy and that 2 of the height adjustment holes were stripped at purchase making the screws that hold it together not as tight as desired.

As for the stand and the tank. The tank is bigger than the stand, however, it is a rimless tank that stand on 4 legs which are about 1 inch inward from the tank so you can go with the biocube14 cabinet. So the stand is 15.75 x 15.25 and the tank is 16x16 but the legs of the tank are only about 14x14. I found that the surface of the cabinet was slippery for the legs of the tank so i got my husband to put in a few screws under the legs so that they would slip off. I can't show you the screws because they are hiding under the legs of the tank but here is a pic of the bottom for you.

As you can tell, the tank is slowly clearing up... Lol
