Cadlights 22 gallon with 144 HO T5's

i just want to say that i support whatever decision you make with respect to lighting...and im not telling you what to do with your tank :)

make sure to post your opinion on the aqua medic 250w...i might be placing an order for one :)

chel, the neptune aqua controller junior does all that. cycles the nano streams, 15 minutes one, then the other. it handles the lights too, built in timer for however many lights you need turned on/off, sunrise, sunset...does not adjust ph, just has a probe to measure it. it will adjust temp up and down according to tropics if you have chiller and heater, otherwise i use it as a safety so in case my heater goes wacko the controller will kill power to it. the controller consist of a backlit lcd display and an 8 socket power strip. the controller controlls the power strip thru a phone line cable that goes from the lcd display to the power strip. the ph and temp probes come out of the lcd and into the tank...

alien i think the 250 is overkill for this tank, it is only 17 gallons, not 22. at only 14 inches deep, the 250 will cook this tank i think...

i ordered the aqua medic 150 from PA. if its not enough ill get the 250...

yeah i made that mistake too where i forgot that putting in sand, rock, corals, filter and media displaces the water. i added too much salt in my tank and killed some stuff.

be careful with the heat!

I could've sworn the aqua controller jr. controls and monitors PH... of course you'd need a calcium reactor but the functionality is built in... right?

jewt.....when i filled my tank, i had no rock or anything, no salt even. in took on about 17 gallons....not 22. i had to then take watrer out to add salt and rock....go figure. i say its a 15 gallon nano...

nametaken....my bad, yes the controller will turn on/off your CO2 injector as needed to maintain the correct PH setting...

my buddy is fabriacting an aluminum crossmember/fixture to hang the aqua medic, should be trick.

i like this guys setup...

i used those screws that expand when you push them in a whole... im drawing a blank on what they are called. but they are spring loaded, you drill a hole, and push it through the ceiling. this worked for me before when i was running a MH pendant.

Jas0n, thanks for your response, that was exactly what i was looking for. so basically if i dont have a chiller, and the controller senses a too high temp, it will turn off the heater untill the temp drops, and then turn it back on?

how about those nano streams, is there a problem that could arise from them being turned on/off constantly? i thought only the higher end model had this option...

good links, those are nice looking tanks...

ps. i think more pics are in order :)

you can hang the pendant from the ceiling, off a bracket attached to the wall behind, or off a fabricated fixture that attaches to top of tank....just like that guys acrylic one. mine will be plain, aluminum, something to hang it so it sits 6-8 inches over the water....the cable is adjustable on the pendant too...not hard to make if you have the right tools and know how. i want it to look nice so ill let the expert do it...

i know the device chel, drawing blank too...

the nanostreams are on 15 minute cycles, on/off each one back and forth...thats the word on the street on how not to burn them up.

ill post picts when i put the pendant on. picked up a couple nice frags too, war coral, rainbow monti, and a 3 pack of tubbs blue zoos...

To hang my light I used copper pipe and made this little unit. I don't know... maybe something to consider.

see everyone? very creative...zillions of ways to skin a cat...nice work nametaken...

i think i am going to hang it from a bracket attached to the wall behind my tank. k.i.s.s.

cool ironic combination, i love how you used copper on the outside esspecially when it is so toxic when it is INSIDE the reef hahaha, i love it!

chel...you are psyched, have fun...some good ideas there from the euros....

now im thinking bout hanging from ceiling since that real common now in household lighting......i hope the wire is long enough...

yeah jewt, hes a rebel!!

ive always been a metal halide fan, thought id try something different with the t5s, well i didnt like it.

if the 24 inch solaris led was half the price i would have bought that.

awesome clownfish! you tank is coming along nicely. i just added water/sand/rocks in it, and im waiting for the temp to become stable, then its showtime :)
