CADlights 39g Pro build thread

I wanted to keep the power stuff out of the sump area, as it's just so humid in there. I think once I have all the bigger stuff sorted out, I'll install a small vent fan just to keep things reasonably dry inside the cabinet.

It gets even more humid when the transformer blocks fall into the sump!

Ouch! Eggcating the sump is also on my to-do list. I thought I had a handle on this build, but it's getting bigger... not smaller!

I don't think I've ever set up a tank where I didn't wish for more sump/in stand space. I finally got around to setting up the PhosBan reactor the other day, and I wound up having to hang it off the front of the sump. It's probably just my paranoia, but I see a leak just waiting to happen. :)

I'm messing around with two refugia. In the sump, I've just got a big ball of cheato. In the HOB display, I've got a really nice mix of macro that I picked up from several on-line vendors. (One of which happily shipped an assortment to me that included caulerpa, despite my California address. I've been a good citizen and safely disposed of it).

Next build step is controller related, as I ordered the new NET module for my RKE this morning. Once I work my way throught the computer networking challenges, I should be able to sit here at work and monitor the status of my tank on the web. It'll give me something to do while I wait for my tank parameters to get rock solid. I'm eager to start adding the 'good stuff', but for a while yet I'll need to make do with the cleaning critters, plus that pair of fire shrimp I picked up earlier in the month

That was Eddie's take at the beginning too - everything is done, so why would the customers need to modify anything?

Because we can :D

getting a nano only puts some limits on the size of our mods.

What a Euro-Reef nano meshwheel looks like - after it comes apart. Didn't seem to damage the pump.

E-R says that the glue used in the early builds didn't hold up as well in the field as in the Euro-Reef test labs. That explanation fits what happened to my skimmer.

Anyway, they are sending me new meshwheels assembled with a new glue. No hassles.

I just installed my euro-reff skimmer as well. I had a tunze 9015 and i have to tell you that already the euro-reed is kickin the tunzes ***, great skimmer for the size and easy install

Ugh, so I saw it before, but I can't manage to find it right now... There was a list of things needed before starting the plumbing that weren't included with the tank, can anyone direct me to the page that has this list is or what exactly will I need to set up everything? The one thing I remember was the PVC glue :).

Also I guess the best thing to do would be to set everything up and then change anything that I don't like? (skimmer, pump, etc)

Is it our fault that we provided so much advice that you can't find the useful bits? :D

CADlights has been making changes based on the feedback, so some things we encountered last year may already be taken care of. But you probably still need to buy your own heater

9/23/08 01:28 ArtC post has the back-then list. Hose clamps, PVC glue.

Put everything together loose and dry first.

Don't buy it 'til you need it.

I wish I had run the electrical before filling the tank - especially in the sump. I'd keep the power distribution on the outside of the cabinet - more ugly stuff outside, but fewer problems from mixing electricity and saltwater. Use some cable management to keep wires out of the water, and to keep them behind the tank. For example, http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=234939-578-PA1730&lpage=none

Check the instructions (or else this thread) for whether you need to put the sump inside your cabinet as part of your cabinet assembly process - otherwise you'll be taking the cabinet apart again.

Much easier to set the system up in the middle of the room, and move it to the wall before filling. (Leave enough space for cables!)

You can check for bulkhead leaks by just filling the overflow instead of the whole tank.

Make sure the stand is level and the tank is still centered on the stand before you fill. If you are setting it on carpet, filling the whole tank with FW will show if you have a settling problem.

I know this thread has mainly focused on the setups/mods/equipment but how have people been stocking their tanks?

I've set up mine as an SPS, with about 9 or 10 colonies + a torch, a pair or Rods Onyx clowns (haven't turned very black but are none the less really good looking), a firefish, and then the normal assortment of hermits/snails.

What about the rest of you?

A few assorted softie frags here, a pair of fire shrimp, and a pair of false percs, plus cleanup crew. (I've grown rather fond of the fuzzy chiton reefcleaners sent... I'd never seen one before)

I'll add at least two more fish down the road. I'm thinking dwarf hawkfish and perhaps a goby or blenny. Long term, I'll try my luck with a magnifica for the clowns, and perhaps a clam. If I decide to skip the clam, I may alter my final fish selection and tempt fate with a flame angel. I've always liked 'em.

I have a 3-4" purple crocea clam, black clown, firefish, 20+ SPS frags (assorted acros, pokerstar monti, assorted caps, etc.), a bunch of mushrooms (blue, red, dark green, neon green, hairy), branching frogspawn (regular and rose) and a torch, assorted zoos, 2 acan frags (about 6 heads each), and CUC.

I know it is very heavily stocked but this is a transition tank. In a year, I will be moving to a much larger system so I wanted to treat this as a grow-out with a lot of pieces so that I can stock a 250 or 300 later.

Im stocked as a mixed reef, like 4 frags of LE SPS, some nice favia, acans, a some nice zoas, a frogspawn, dendro, and an ultra grade maxima clam.

As far as fish i just got a pair of almost naked ora clowns (love um), scooter blenny, midas blenny, and a sixline wrasse (my girlfriend picked him out).

Ilove my tank so far, its very modern and sleek looking compared to other nanos of similar size, I decided to go bare bottom and my mp40 is doing an awesome job of getting the detritus down to the skimmer.

On another not i just wanted to say i could not be happier with the euro-reef nano skimmer made to fit the CAD its awesome and really performs better than i would have imagined for a skimmer of its size. Without any ozone, mechanical filtration, or UV i get a redox of 320!

Oh and another thing anyone running a profilux with this system, currently i have a aquatronica controller and was wondering if i should trade it in for a profilux

I'm out right now but as soon as I get home I'll take some pics.

Oh by the way I have been able to keep all this under my solaris I-5 unit so for all of you considering LEDs I say got for it

Has anyone ordered the Oscillator and Wavemaking return nozzles with their system. Are they a good addition? I'm still anxiously awaiting my new system, due to ship on the 30th. TIA

Thanks, pilot. The tank is pretty much stocked as far as coral goes. I am going to let it grow out and mature over the next year without many more additions.

Those are the invisible frag racks from captain salty. One is a corner rack and the other is a straight one.

mnpilot,I just ordered the Oscillator and Wavemaking return nozzles.I'll let you know how it works in a day or so.I have the signature series not the pro.Could one of you measure the section of the sump that the skimmer sits in.I need to know if it's the same size as it is on the signature series.I really want to get the new Euro reef nano skimmer.
