CADlights 39g Pro build thread

It's abou 12" at the base, and 14" tall if you want to be able to close it. I found a food container thingie also at the container store that holds 14 quarts (so almost 4 gallons) and drilled a hole in the plastic lid to pass the airline tube. Ideally I'd like something bigger as there is still plenty of room in the box, but couldn't find anything bigger at the container store that would fit. With the right ideally fitted container I'm sure it could hold 5-6 gallons. If I don't find anything store bought I'm tempted to just get an acrylic box made that would fit the inside perfectly.

What's really nice is that the bamboo slats let you easily pass the tubing and power for the pump so the wires are completely hidden.

I like that, what type of water container did you use and what are the inside dimensions of the bamboo container? I saw that the Container Store says that the box is 15" square but it looks smaller at the base.

Thanks for the idea.

I just found this at Target (online only) for $15 - Reliance 7-gal. Aqua-Tainer - Blue

While they say it is 7 gallons, the dimensions listed of 11.25x11.0x10.75 calculate to just under 6 gallons. Looks like this container will fit the bamboo container, which was approved by my wife, so I'm ordering both. I'll post when I get them and are set up.

I should get about 10 days of top off water out of this :bounce3:

Reeftivo -

I thought that you had posted pictures and info on what you are using for ATO but I can't find it now. I'm being "allowed" to move my ATO outside the stand as long as I can hide it well. I remember you saying that you found the boxes at Target but couldn't remember where you found the water containers.

Thanks

Target had a couple I used on the left of the stand for the ATO reservior but Michaels crafts stores have more options if you are looking for a rattan or wicker look.

as far as the water container, I work for an environmental management company and am fortunate to have tons of containers at my disposal.

The 5 gallon drums of real ocean water at Petco are the same size as the ones I use. I have two of the 5's that I switch out. I just peek at the side opening and when it starts to get low (7 days), I just bring the new 5 in, slide the low one out and drop in the fresh one. Takes about 30 seconds.

Constantly messing with skimmers so thought I'd post a pic of my ATB after finally finding my dry setting on this one. I ditched the mesh and am running the small red NW.

Please post if it ends up fitting. I have a very similar 5G container from my LFS that they sell to people that buy their SW, and the handle prevented the top from closing.

Hmm, you sure it's only 10.75"? Target and other sites say it's 16"

The "Real Ocean" water containers at Petco are 5 gallon and do not have the raised handle. They are very similar to mine (dimensions). They can be ordered online if you do not have a Petco in your area. The bung opening is perfect for a tunze ato pump as well. They have a center piece that can be punched out of the cap for the wiring to be pulled through.

I thought the height was off but the dimensions listed under features was 11.25x11.0x10.75 but it looks like the "Estimated Ship Dimensions : 16 inches length x 11 inches width x 11.5 inches height"

At a height of 16" the container calculates to 8.4 gallons. If I estimate that the handle and lid is 2" tall, making the usable space 14" tall then the container will hold about 7 gallons.

So we'll see when they show up. I can use them either way but hopefully they will fit.

I'll post pictures in a week or so, Target charges so much for shipping I had them shipped on the slow boat.

RT-thanks for the suggestion of the real ocean containers - will check them out if these don't fit.

I started looking around a bit more after YCore's comment on the size and it looks like Target has the size for the 4 gallon container listed. Reliance's website doesn't work very well but I did find the 7 gallon listed as 15.5" tall. So I canceled my target order, thanks Ycore for saving me the hassle!

I did find a 5 gallon Reliance Water-Pak container that, according to REI and Reliance is 11.5" round and 13.5" tall. So I am going to get one of those and try it. I know I won't be able to fit my Tom's pump in the case but that isn't that big of a deal and I'll gladly hang the pump in-side the case for an extra gallon of top off water.

Cool, let me know how it works for you. I was going to go check Walmart as it just seems wrong to have to order a water jug online lol.

I agree ordering this online did seem wrong, but I ordered it from Amazon and have the Prime membership so my 2nd day shipping was free.

I'll post exact measurements when I get it Thursday.

Just ordered a 9 gallon "Tank Only" from Cadlights. It's going to be a macro algae / mangrove display refugium for my 39g Pro. I have an oversized stand and it will fit perfectly next to the 39. Cadlights verifyed for me that the 9 has no tempered glass so I can drill it for an overflow and return. Getting close to putting water in this system. About two or three weeks to go I'd guess.

Was wondering what glass cleaners have worked best for others on the CAD. I use the MagFloat on my BC14. Works well, but has trouble with the rounded corners.

I also use a mag float for the bulk of the glass but have to do the corners by hand with a piece of filter floss. I also like Toms scraper with a long handle the metal blade for getting at the substrate line and removing the mineral build-up at the water line. The rounded corners are a bit of work, but in my mind, worth it for the aesthetics and 2 less seams.

On another topic - I received my Apogee PAR meter and the Maxspect LEDS. I played with the PAR meter a bit on the AIs'....WOW - The numbers are even greater than I thought.

It will take some time to get the Maxspect hung and adjusted and complete measurements for both tanks - but just for reference, the Cadlights stock fixture running a 14K Phoenix and 2 GM Actinic+s put out about 650 PAR at the waterline with the lights about 3 1/2" above - Compared to the AIs at around 1370 PAR at the waterline, and they are hung 12" above. NO WONDER I cooked everything initially.

I'll post the complete results at http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=17031963#post17031963 when available.

ATO water saga

ATO water saga

The water-paks showed up and being round are a pain to measure but they are about 11 3/4" wide and 14" tall.

the bamboo stool showed up today. It interior dimensions are just a bit too small because there are supports on the bottom which decrease the inside height to about 13 1/8". So causes the lid to stay propped open about an inch. The dimensions of the interior of the stool are 10 7/8" x 14 when measuring inside the supports or 11 7/8" x 13 1/8" when measuring on top of the supports.

I am thinking about removing the hinges and use some bamboo blocks to set the lid on so it sits level. i thought about removing the bottom of the stool but after looking at it I don't think the stool would stay together without the bottom.

Overall I am happy with how this worked out and think it will look great once i get the lid to close completely.

Arghh, that sucks.. I had the exact problem with the 5 gallon container from my LFS-- about an inch too high to get the lid closed. I'd be interested in seeing whatever mod you make to the stool to make it fit..

This is the CAD cherry stand with Tunze Skimmer Kit and 5G plastic top-off container from Reliance Products. The glass tank is part of the kit that will house the Tunze DOC Skimmer 9410, Tunze Osmolator 3155, and Tunze Silence 1073.020 recirculation pump. The top-off container and skimmer kit fit perfectly. Container mouth is wide enough to fit the Osmolator pump no problem.

I lined the inside of the cabinet with vinyl (not finished yet) to protect the wood. I will mount a 3.5 inch fan in the back (need to drill a hole yet).

very nice!

Let me know if you need help w/ the 9410 skimmer. I have one and they are awsome, but very finicky to bed in. There are some mods that you will find usefull because it is not a quiet skimmer. 7 inches is the optimal operating level IMO for these skimmers and you'll want to ditch the 50 micron sock and use a standard 200 micron sock instead.

Love the set up!

Medium mag float with a thin layer of filter pad works great for me. It gets the corners and if there is any tough stuf I take it off and use the rough surface.
