Calcium chloride additives

Hey all. I'm looking for a safe and effective DIY calcium additive. I picked up a bag of safestep 7300 calcium chloride from Ace hardware. It claims to be 100% calcium chloride. Has anyone used this brand in their reefs? Is it safe? If not, what brands are out there that are regarded as safe and effective, and available on the east coast? Thanks, all.

You should be fine. With 100% CaCl, you will need to readjust your 2-part formula because they are constructed for about 80% pure CaCl. The impurities in CaCl are usually CaCO3, NaCl, and MgCl

People have been successful with a wide range of calcium chloride products, although it takes a lot of expensive testing to be sure about a specific product.

Yeah, I figured 100% CaCl2 should be fine. I googled the msds on safestep 7300 and it says it's 60-100% pure...although it says 100% on the front of the package......So, what do I believe? I guess I'm looking for anyone who has had experience with this specific product.

The problem is that CaCl2 absorbs water and you never know exactly how much it has absorbed. That's the reason for the wide purity range. Most of the balance will be water.
