Calcium reactor

bad inferno

New member
I have a 4' mixed reef with a small sump , limited room. I was curious in that cannot find too much info / reviews on the tunze calcium reactor. Size wise it would be great next to my 9011 skimmer.
I already have a co2 setup from my fresh water days including ph controllers

Any comments on the unit ? Anybody seen this on a tank. I would really like to control mg as well. Any experience with the tunze media

I am keen to give it a go as I have read good stories in general about using reactors compared to dosing. , even though I currently auto does ca alk and mg.

I have used one in the past on a 120 gallon tank, I used it with the calcium dispenser dosing kalk and set the pH controller to keep a pH of 8.15, that way CO2 fed the reactor whenever the pH went above 8.15. It worked very well, it was the only time I had a locked in value of 8.08-8.22 day or night. The media is a pure calcium carbonate, it doesn't have much in the way of trace elements, but it is also free of contaminants. It doesn't work well with other medias unfortunately so you may still need to dose some magnesium, alternatively, you can easily fill the Calcium reactor extension with any media of your choice.
