I am new to reef central and to reef keeping. Started in Oct with 55 gal. with 20 gal miracle mud 3 compartment refugium. A corner overflow drains to the refugium over bioballs then flows into the center where the miracle mud is (and where I have 6 red mangrove plants) then flows into the last compartment where I have a hang on protein skimmer and the return water is pumped up to the dual return. Everything, about 15 corals and 15 reef safe fish are doing well but I quickly learned I don't have enough space for all I want to do!!!! A rather common problem, I think!
I am in the process of upgrading to a 125 gal 60x18x25 glass tank from glass cages in TN. I need to give them a diagram of the overflow. I want to do it right this time - BUT I'm not experienced enough to know what is the best design! I have read that the Anthony Calfo overflow design is one of the best. I am trying to get some diagrams to give to glass cages on how one is built. I've also read that a traditional overflow with standpipe etc. has better circulation if there are some holes to pull water from the bottom, middle and top of the overflow wall? Could I get some feedback from those of you who really know what you're doing and have experience in this area?
Thanks for any HELP I can get concerning this!
