Can a copperband survive on Copepods only?

Got a copperband from LA and it has fattened up nicely in a week. Eating nothing I feed. I have lots of Copepods. I would prefer to feed live brine and black worms but can they do fine on just these?

once your pod population is decimated you will need to feed it

live brine shrimp (Artemia) aren't really a great choice unless gut loaded.

PE Mysis is a better choice. My CBB's always destroy frozen meaty foods from (brandname) Pro Salt frozen fish foods.

Thanks Gary, tried 4 different types of frozen to no avail. How is the weather? It's 80 on the white beaches. Glad I moved :).

yesterday afternoon the rain was starting to freeze on tree branches and you know what THAT reminded me of... the great ice storm!

I think we hit a high of 45F here today. Soaking cold rain.

Your CBB will start to hit the frozen foods once pods are cleared and it gets hungry. The fact that it's hunting pods and eating is a good sign.

Mine will eat nutramar ova and cyclopeeze. I suggest trying different foods until you find one he will eat. Supplementing his pod eating will do nothing but improve his chances of survival. After a year mine is still a picky eater and will not eat mysis.

Also, I would point out that your fish is skinny (look at the forehead pinch) so pods are already not cutting it... I'd find a food he likes ASAP.

here's the main problem I see... and other's might concur...

there's VERY LITTLE liverock in that aquarium. There's not a lot of hiding spots for naturally occurring CBB food (such as pods).

if there is no refugia hooked up to that aquarium you will need to feed that fish rather heavily.

In MY particular case, my CBB is in a 220 with LOTS of LR and pods. I feel that my fish feedings are supplemental to what my CBB is hunting all day long.

Just a thought: you might want to put some REAL LIVE LIVEROCK in that aquarium. Rock that's pod loaded.
