Can a Naso tang do good in a 180g 6 feet wide?

I would not put a Naso in a 6' tank. There are those who answer every stocking question with a "yes", but you need to consider the size of the fish and its swimming habits. There are much better choices than a Naso for a 6' tank.

I would go ahead and add a Naso tang to a 180 gallon tank.

I don't think people realize that the amount of Naso tangs on the market probably far exceeds the number of hobbyists out there who CAN house these fish properly. (horrible reality) Don't get me wrong bigger is definitely better, but how long do these fish need to wait at the LFS before somebody with an adequate size tank does walk through those doors. Lets just hope it's somebody with a 180 gallon tank as opposed to 100 gallon one. ;) JMO.

FWIW, seven people have chosen to reply to this thread and it looks like only one of them has a tank worth consideration. Definitely not the best odds... I'm just saying. (unless some of you do have a monster tank) GL.

Wrong thought process here IMO instead of my 100 is better then the lfs 50 how about leave it with the lfs who won't order more from supplier, who won't pay collectors to catch. Just a thought.

I have two suitable tanks. However if people with unsuitable tanks keep buying them, the LFS will keep stocking them.

first, imo, you need to define what "do good" is? if that's a "fully actualized" naso tang, than i would say no; that, however depends on what you consider a "fully actualized" naso tang is? imo, it would be a fully mature, breeding naso tang that is continuing the existence of the species; which means very few, if any, aquarium fish will ever become "fully actualized", imo..... if, "do good" means, living in an aquarium which is diseases and stress free with ample food, than imo, i would say maybe, but it depends on the aquarist.

It could do good for a limited time (assuming you are growing it up) but eventually need more room.

I'd hazard a guess that these are one of the most mistreated species in the hobby with regards to being added to far to small a tank. Shame as they are stunning.
On a recent roadtrip I saw 8 nearly foot long naso literatus in a lfs tank which was 40" at most and not very deep. I thought that really gave the wrong message and couldn't work out why any shop would get that many in at once.
