Can a Osmolator be hooked up to the Mains Water Supply?

Ok, this may be a really stupid question!

Im looking at hooking up the Tunze Osmolator to the Mains Water Supply.

Im assuming that the sensors that monitor the water level control the pump that pumps the water!

In short im hoping to remove the pump and replace it with a electroic solenoid that is connected and controls the flow of the Mains Water Supply via a RO/DI Unit.

Does anyone know if this would be possible or if there would an easier or better way?

Part of my reason to wanting to use the Osmolator rather than a conventional float switch is;

a; i have one already.
b; i imagine the safety devices would still operate to some degree.

I wouldn't do that for several reasons. The quality of your RO/DI water will suffer and you have a much greater risk of flooding and wiping out your tank. The safe way to do this is to use part 8555 to top off your reservoir and use the reservoir to top off the tank using the osmolator. The reservoir should have an overflow drain to the outside or to a floor drain.

Ok that sounds like a much better idea!

I may be forced with another problem though. It appears as though my reservoir will be higher than my tank and im concerned that it will gravity drain. Do i have a way of stopping the Osmolator from doing this?

Not reliably, I would use a smaller reservoir below the tank. Something like 5-10 gallons would be perfect. 8555 has a switch you set that will not let an RO unit run for more than 12 or 24hrs. But it doesn't switch on until the reservoir is almost empty so it basically lets the RO unit run as long as possible between on and off cycles so the diffusion of waste back across the membrane that you see with very short cycles is reduced.

Thanks Roger!

Just so you know im planing on setting up the RO unit in the laundry. It will live under the bench, and will feed a 25Ltr Bucket/Reservoir. The Osmolator pump will fed from this bucket to the main tank/sump.

However as i said the laundry is about 1 meter above the tank and approx. 10m away. Could i perhaps elevate the return tube from the Osmolator 1m above the reservoir in the laundry and then return it "downhill" to the tank below. Im assuming this would be sufficient to stop the gravity drain. But, will the little pump be strong enough to pump that high/far???

If the end point of the hose is below the water level of the reservoir you will still get a siphon.
