can a purple, or blue linkia starfish be kept w/clams

I've no experience with the purple starfish, but I have kept blue linckias with clams and had no problems.

Yes, they won't bother the clams at all. I have a blue linkia with a max and deresa.

Now, actually getting a linkia to live, well, that's another story...

Well, depends on the size of the star and what else you have competing for food. I have two in my 75, an orange (I think) and a blue. They do just fine. You could probably do one or two more, but it depends on what else you have that lives off the rock and detritus.

IME, the smaller blues do better that the larger, older adults. Long acclimation and a well established tank are also a must. Of course, finding one alive in the store is the main challenge.

ya so i hear, how long to acclimate? 4 hours?
i figure maybe one of each color, red, orange, blue, and purple.
i've got an established tak w/maybe 15 hermits and 10 snails so i don't think food should be a prob

Acclimation is best achieved through a drip process. I used one of my old chameleon water drips from Zoo Med, but any cup with airline tubing will suffice. I'd say a minimum of 4 hours. The longer the better. You will have to partially empty the bag every now and then. I usually just acclimate in the sump.

I keep a large purple linkia with my clams and they work out just fine.
I recommend 12-24 hour acclimation through diffusion. I cut a few small slits in the bag the starfish is in. hang the bag in the tank where the water flow is low to medium and then I let it sit there for 12 to 24 hours. Then I will release the starfish. Remember Linkias should not be exposed to the air.
Feeding can be difficult at times so I always try to offer food to the strfish. I normally place a silverside or krill infront of its path. If you disturb them with the food they normally go away from the food. If the starfish is going to take it will stop on the food and might be there for few days while it digests it on the sand.

I acclimated my purple linkia for 3 hours then took him out of the bag with my hand through the air to the tank. I have never had any trouble w/linkias be it blue orange or purple and acclimation. I guess some people have trouble with them some dont.

It's amazing how different we all do things for our tanks and inhabatants, Think about how you dress. I guar there is no one here that does it the same , Or how we eat! Everyone is going to do things different but that does not mean that everyone will have the same result or won't.
