can all euphyllias touch? So far so good...

Most people I know keep hammer/anchor and frogspawn/octopus corals in contact with no trouble, but everybody I know is iffy about whether you can toss torch into the pile. All are euphyllias, but torch is notoriously 'hotter.'

Well, so far so good. I have a big hammer, a medium frog, and just completed the encircling belt mid-tank with a nice big green torch I was just sure couldn't reach the frog.

Typical of corals, they found a way to do it, and are snuggles with each other with no problems. Mind, this only proves torch can touch frog, not that torch can touch hammer, but the frog is touching both as of this writing and nothing harmful has happened.

Nice. I've been toying with the idea of putting my torch and frog together. Will the frogspawn retract fairly quickly if the torch is, as you say, "hotter"?

i disagree... to me, i've SEEN my hammer cause my torch to close up but never effected the frogspawn or other hammers...

torch seems to be the weakest of the group IMO.

I read all sorts of conflicting reports, based on personal experiences. What's a guy to believe?! I guess just try it out and wait and see :)

So, by that, as long as the sequence is [hammer][frog][torch] they can touch---just don't close the circle? ;)

Frog seems perfectly fine touching both at the same time.

They are, for what it is worth, an ordinary green hammer, a green/pink frog, and a very green torch.

I've had the same experience. I left it there for 2 months and nothing happend.

I tried to put my frogspawn and torch beside each other. Let's just say....bad idea :) Both retracted immediately, and the heads facing each other were shriveled and limp (for both corals). Needless to say, I removed the torch right away.

Hmmn. Interesting.
Let's say all three of these euphyllias are branching, no 'wall' specimens.
The second day, and all three are happily extended.
The variety of torch is very fine tentacles and very green, compared to some of the 'fatter' and 'pinker' versions I've seen.

I wonder if we are dealing with more subspecies than we think we are when we label these creatures by tentacle-shape more than by base-shape and growth pattern.

Yeah, both of mine are branching, but definitely not the light green/thin tentacles that you're describing. Would be interesting to experiment with it.
