What is required to feed and care for Carnation Corals?
http://www.livestockusa.org/CARN.html

Hi All
Can any one please tell me is these carnation corals are difficult to care for ? Do I need a Green Water Culture using a drip method as someone told me.

If anyone can advise me I would be most grateful.

Cheers
Kim

low light as much light will cause them harm, near perfect water conditions and a constant phyto drip.
I would say very low light and if you are lucky with your phyto drip they will survive for a couple of months.
Note that pristine water with continuous feed is a very difficult combination specially as a skimmer can't be used so continued water changes might also be needed.
IMO this is one of the species I would leave at sea.

scroll down the advanced topics list a little farther to new deodronephthya sp. study group.thats the name for carnation coral.there is 15 pages of info.nobody truely knows how to keep them alive, hence the name study group.

Our reefs are amazing eco systems...On that note, I purchased a carnation from Reefermadness about 5 years ago. To this dya it still thrives in my reef which is by no means perfect, and I do not feed phyto.. i have fragged this coral several times, not sure how the frags did for others. I know one frag went to a large aquaculture facility in our area. Then again in my tank I can not get any zoanthids to maintain and actually have trouble with some mushrooms. This reef has been up for over 10 years and and has many soft corals that where in the tank from the start..
I think the big question is what makes one tank so much different then another that inhabitants thrive and others don't? Just my .02 cents...

I do have a chiller but I keep my tank at 80-81...
