Can anyone tell me why my clown is so stupid?!?

So, first of all, my Perc likes hosting in the mantle of a Crocea, the clam doesnt seem to mind anymore, he stays fully open. But I decided I was going to give the clam a break and buy a RBTA for my clown, so about 2 weeks ago I bought one, low and behold the anemone decides to park right up against the clam as well. The kicker of the whole situation is, the clown still doesnt even look at the RBTA, hell steal food from it every once in a while, but thats as close to it as he gets. I guess Im just kinda frustrated at how dumb my perc really is.

Sorry for a blurry pic

At least its a cool RBTA, bright pink. Oh well huh? haha

It is not the fish that is stupid, just the reefer who doesn't know the need of the fish. BTA is not a naturel host of A. percula. Maybe he will take to it in the future. But then he may not.

LOL. You'd be stupid too if your brain was smaller than a pencil eraser.

Like Minh Nguyen said, give it time. It may eventually happen.

Don't worry your clown is not the only one :) I have 3 dommies that host in my Goni!!! They don't even bother going close to with my RBTA.

ouch... haha

This was supposed to be more of a "ha ha thats funny" post originally, but I guess I deserve that one  I only have a 15 gallon tank, wouldnt dream of putting any of percs natural hosts in a 15 gal.

Haha... you can try to feed the clown near the anemone, like, right by the anemone.. and he may rub up in it or even go in to it after food. Just try to get him to "notice" it further. It's still very, very doubtful.. but at this point it can't hurt to try .

Good luck.

LOL ... you clown has fancy taiste ... he's not stupid, just prefer's the more expensive house. ;) come on ... who would not want a more expensive house?

Don't feel bad. I got an rbta for my clowns so they would stop hosting in my flowerpot coral. They haven't even looked at it. The flowerpot coral is now used to the clowns, but I still wish they would at least try the rbta. Oh well, it looks really cool in the tank anyway.

I had a similar issue with my clowns. Before I got my seabae anenome, I had a saddleback leather that my 2 clowns started hosting in. Everything was cool with them & the saddleback, but I thought I'd add an anenome to give the clowns a proper home. So, I added the seabae, but the clowns wouldn't even go near it (leather & seabae about 8 inches apart in a 36" wide tank). I thought patience would be the key, but after months & months of waiting no luck....clowns would not vacate the leather.

Then, one day I decided I needed to rearrange the tank a bit because the leather was getting too big for the spot it was in (all smashed up against the glass). I ended up putting the leather where the anenome was, and the anenome where the leather was. Guess what....as soon as that move was made, the clowns started hosting in the seabae, and have been there ever since! I guess technically they didn't move...it was just their home that was switched out from under them, literally.

Unfortunately, as soon as the leather lost the clowns, it quickly went downhill & eventually died. I'm not 100% sure of the cause, but I chalk it up to sadness from losing the clowns.

Anyways, FWIW, that's my story about getting clowns to change hosts.

You can remove his house right now (putting the clam into aother tank, yours or a friend) and so he have no choice but move elsewhere (or but a barrier over the clams so they can't get to it).
The down side to all of this is upset a tank that is doing well.
