Can I add more anthias?

elegance coral

They call me EC
I have a 120 with a trio of Lyretails. One male, two females. Water quality is not an issue. 90gl sump, modded MSX300 skimmer, and large frequent water changes. My concern is compatibility. Can I add more anthias to this tank, and if so, how many?

I'm not sure what else you have for bioload, but just for example I have a 150g w/ 60g sump, octo x 160(looking to bump that).
I have 5 lyretails(1male) 3carryberri, 1 dispar(assuming male role to carryberi's) for anthias.
Also have a tennenti tang, 5 chromis, 2 picasso's, 1 Copperband.
After I bump skimmer I may add more anthias.
W/your sump and skimmer I'm sure you could easily match my bioload, maybe even more.

Yes but get females if you can and just watch out for fighting and be ready to separate if needed. After awhile they will become integrated

Good Luck

Thanks for all the help.

Yes, if you want more lyretails, just add small, definite females.

Other anthias... add without issue. What species?

Sweet! So a male from one species will do fine with a male from another? I was thinking about a trio of Bartletts as my first choice. If that goes well, I may try another species. Dispar???? Ventralis maybe??? I also like square spot anthias, but they're huge. I wouldn't want them to beat up other fish. My main concern is keeping a somewhat peaceful tank. A little dominance to keep the hierarchy established is no big deal, but I don't want any real violence in my tank.

Right now I have a pair of perc's, four blue chromis, three green chromis, and the three lyretails. I don't have any large fish like tangs, and don't plan on getting any. If I need to thin out my population to accommodate more anthias, some of the chromis can go back to the store.

I actually like the mix of my chromis and anthias, they tend to hang w/ each other a lot.
From what I've read bartletts seem to be fairly easy, and aggressive eaters, sometimes to the point of being somewhat bullyish or piggy at feeding time.
All my anthias were young females at purchase w/ the exception of my male lyretail.
While my dispar seems to be taking on male role w/ my recently purchased carryberi's, kind of like a sub harem/group of anthias, when all anthias are grouped together it's obvious my male lyretail is boss of all my anthias, including the dispar.

Hey I just went through this same issue. I have a 120 Gallon tank with 40 B sump and already have 3 Lyretails in my tank. One of the lyretails is in the midst of changing to a male, and I just added 5 female Bartletts to my tank.

The first day I put them in I left the lights out the entire day. The next day when I turned them on and the Bartletts finally came out the Lyretails initially picked on them to put them in their place but this aggression has become minimal now. The only fish that seems to have an issue in the tank with the new additions is my big old chromis!

From what I have read Bartletts stay relatively small and they are stunningly beautiful. I am waiting for one of the females to turn into a super male to complete the set. I hope this helped and look forward to hearing what you end up doing!
