Sunrise Dottyback - Tank-Bred (Pseudochromis flavivertex)
i have a yellowhead jawfish in the tank. im moving the jawfish from my 29 to a 40 breeder next week. i would like to have both in the 40.

I never tried this combo.

You'll have a greater chance at success if jaws has a nice rubble home well established BEFORE the Dotty is introduced.

This pseudo can get aggressive. I had to banish mine to a tank with big boys since he was not getting along with tank mates his own size.

I acquired a male sunrise because it killed $300+ in fish. I'm not sure what fish, but the owner banished it to the sump until he could sell it to me. Right now, it is in it's own tank waiting to be paired up with a female.

I once had a {peaceful} Orchid Dottyback take out a large Engineer Goby.

I would not attempt a Sunrise Dotty and Yellowhead Jaw in a 40.

i watched that fish hunt down a swissguard in a 180. it was brutal. the tank was loaded w/rock and very well fed. everyfish is different, but i'd bet $100 it wouldn't last 90 days.

ok well im not getting that fish now thanks for the info.

hows this for a stocking list for the 40?

Jawfish, Yellowhead (Opistognathus aurifrons)
Royal Gramma Basslet (Gramma loreto)
Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loriculus)
Firefish, Purple (Nemateleotris decora)
Starry Blenny (Salarias ramosus)
Kaudern's Cardinal (Pterapogon kauderni)

Gramma is the most aggressive fish in that group. Add last with caution, if at all.

You gotta get a pair of Cardinalfish and feed them well so you can have babies!

it's hit and miss!

sexing those cardinals isn't easy and I don't know of anyone that can do it reliably. You'll only know if their a male/female pair after two mature fish are in the same aquarium together.

Black Cap is a nice fish. Gets bigger than gramma IME. Good choice for a low light reef aquarium because they're from the deep. Don't know if it would be any less aggressive than gramma, though. Probably equal.

bangaii's are interesting fish . they are born male or female and can't change sex like clowns. they have a single, or set of fins that can be used as a positve male/female ID . they warrant some research ,if your interested getting a pair. viral issues in wild caught fish are common. the breeding cycle is tough on males. a single fish isn't a bad idea in many cases IMO. usually a very hearty, peaceful fish once established. very few tankmates seem to bother them. i killed many in my attempt make a pair. my advice is to buy an established fish or pair ,that were tank raised(not aquacultured).or better yet, buy somebody's who are bigger than a quarter. mine will only eat meaty frozen food.
