Can I have advice on feeding a Zebra eel?

He's been in my tank just over a week now. He's about 2' long and 1 1/2" thick. I didn't see or feed him for a full week. Now that he's made an appearance I've been feeding him 2 cocktail size shrimp a day...one in the morning and one at night. That seems like that might be too much, what do you think?

Eels aren't like most fish in that they don't just eat and eat if you put food in front of them. My zebra eel would grab the shrimp I would put in the tank and pull away when he was done eating. Its typically good to feed it twice a week. With that size eel, it will probably end up becoming about 2 shrimp each feeding (depending on the size of the shrimp). The great thing about eels (especially zebra eels) is they are incredibly resilient and so easy to feed, because you just have to offer food infrequently, and if they eat it, cool...if they don't its not a big deal. Also, they can be prone to "hunger strikes". It's periods of time (sometimes up to 3 weeks) where they dont eat. Its nothing out of the ordinary, they just are able to do it and aren't constantly voracious or hungry.

Feed it once or twice a week as much as it will eat in a single sitting. Eels aren't the sort of fish you feed that frequently.

Eels are pretty easy when it comes to feeding. They'll eat anything!!! I have a snowflake in my tank now and i feed him shrimp and squid once a week or so. Hed only eat when he was hungry. He's been through a lot, box fish poisoning, temp flucts due to faulty equipment, power outages...

I used to have a zebra living under the dock at my house and we used to feed him absolutely anything. Beautiful eels. I did have a green morey that had a taste for sleeping fish so i had to take him out of the tank... Just watch him.

Mine is a fan of crab, squid, shrimp and scallops. I added a few larger hermits recently and it tried to eat one of them immediately. They are definitely a fan of crustaceans.
