hi all, im in the process of putting together a 244 gal tank and currently researching the compatability of the inhabitants ide like to keep

so far im putting in a cat shark, lionfish, clown trigger and a panther grouper and a school of tangs (probally 5)

im building a foam rock wall with plenty of hiding spots, would an octopus be a good choice to add some exotic to an already exotic tank so is this an absolute no no?

I had 2 octopus in my 180 reef for 8 months they ended up killing each other they never bothered the fish.. You can let them think they have comprtion for for which means when you feed them feed them don't let other fish go after the food... This often means no krill feedings for the fish just mysis and pellets.. If you have a trigger or a grouper they will go after the crabs that you will feed the octopus and you'll wake up in themorning to dead fish with no eyes if the octopus was to full to eat the fish..

Octos have to be keep alone.Even if you kept 2 together eventually one will eat the other. If you kept a octo with other fish , you risk the octo being eaten or eating your fish.Don't risk it!

Fish usually don't bother octopus. I kept at least one in most of the reefs I've had .. The only reason I don't keep any in my 300 reef is because I now keep 10 types of shrimp and crabs and planing on more..

My thought is that your question should be which will eat the octopus first. Answer to your question as posed is I wouldn't do it, I don't believe you can keep these together. You've got an ambush predator in the lionfish, an aggressive hunter in the clown trigger, a fish that will eat anything that will fit in its mouth in the grouper, and a fish that loves to eat inverts in the cat shark. The tangs won't bother the octopus, but it might eat them. Also, you are bound to have aggression between your other fish. The trigger will eat your shark and your lionfish, the grouper will try and eat everything, and the tangs will slash anything that comes close to them in order to protect themselves. Sorry, but I think it's a bad idea to mix what you're suggesting.
