Can I keep Angels in a pure SPS Tank?

I am going to have a 100% SPS tank can I keep an angel in it? I have always wanted a queen angel but never been able to keep one because I had an LPS tank. Do Large angels really bother with SPS?

yes and no

I had an emperor and majestic without problems.....but you know....luck is necessary

The only fish that is 100% reef safe is a dead fish

Best regards

well I may have to give it a go. maybe Ill put him in QT with a frag for awhile and see what happens lol

I can't agree with that statement. Fish like mandarins or pipefish are 100% reef safe.

Some fish are actually beneficial to corals because they prey on coral parasites.

I cannot agree with that statement either. I am sure it was a joke.

Genicanthus sp. should be perfectly be OK in a 100% sps tank. I have some (G. melanospilos and G. bellus) in my 100% sps tank.

I would not personally risk other species of angel fish unless I knew that the luck was on my side. Having said that there are a few reefers who keep angels successfully in mixed reef tanks. A prime example is John Coppolino's reef aquarium.

I have serveral different types of angels(a trio of bandits and cb g. Personatus, and an Interrupta) in a sps dominant tank. They pretty much leave the sticks alone but they do like to 'taste' them every once in awhile. I think they like to mouth the slime. They've never killed any acros but that being said, I have very minimal polyp extensions during the day.

I have one but I got it it was only about an inch or so this way you could get used to the habitat rather being bigger in the natural world was already picking

I think it is definitely a risk. There are some that are more/less risky than others. I have 2 regals, 2 venustus, a goldflake and a majestic without problem but I know that can change any day. I'm not sure I'd be willing to try a Queen, although they are stunning.

There is an old thread with a running survey spreadsheet about this. It is worth looking up. I know majestics were almost across the board SPS safe. I have had one for 4-5 years with sps now with zero issues (aside from it eating all the aiptasia! :) ). I think blue face and regals were similar in the responses.

I have a bunch in my sps 2 chrysurus 2 regals an asfur a personifer an emperor Japanese swallowtail and a blue line

I've never had a prob except for my clams they like to bite at occasianlaly I've heard queens can be a prob but I beleive Copps has tried it . He has said there's not any angel he wouldn't put into his sps tank that's what gave me the courage besides Angels are pretty much my fav fosh there just special lol

I agree that they are special fish and I would love to have an angel or 2

I juts dont know what kind will work out the best.

I have a blueface and it will nip at tips and bases. Tips have noticeable (minor) damage, but otherwise the acros are ok. I wouldn't get an an angel if I had a tank full of frags, but with larger colonies should be able to withstand the punishment.
