can I keep one?

If I can get a clam, it won't be for about 6 months since my tank is only 2 months old right now, but I want to know if I will be able to get one down the road. My tank is 55 gallons with 216w Jalli PC lights (2x10,000K and 2xactinic). So far, I've had consistent water params, and do biweekly 6 gallon water changes. Could I possibly keep a clam?.......perhaps a Derasa (since I hear they don't have intense lighting needs)? Is there any smaller clam I could keep since I don't have tons of room on the sand for a massive Derasa....my rockwork does rise fairly hgih in the tank (close to the lights, if that makes a difference). Thanks for any suggestions.

first I would increases the water changes to 10 g because it is closer to the 25% that is what I do and you will see a big difference in the tank. NO Maxima or Crocea's and for the others i would put them up higher in the tank. Or start off with the clam on the bottom of the tank then see if it is not looking to good then you know to put it up higher in the rock work.

The problem with the clam is the tank. The derasa, squamosa, and gigas are the lower light clams. However they get really big. The available bottom space on the 55 is typically small. Plus I'm not totally comfortable with PC light and even the lower light clams.

I got a derasa and crocea in my 24 nano, and only after 4 months, and they have done great. But that was also knowing I would upgrade someday. I now have a 150. But as for the lighting, both did fine under VHO and actinic.

Well lets just say he plans on either selling his tank or upgrading it to a bigger one once it outgrows it. But for the meantime, would it be ok for him to have one?
