Can I use PraziPro in a Copper Tank?

I use Prazipro with Cupramine copper all the time. I've never used any other copper with Prazipro, but my guess would be that it is ok.

In addition to what LargeAngels said, I've used Coppersafe with praziquantel with no apparent problems.
Are you running ionic copper at .25ppm? If so, that's beyond the suggested dose of .20ppm. If you are using an organically chelated copper like Copersafe, or Cupramine, then .25 is very low.

I am using an ionic copper. The brand name is SeaCure Copper Treatment. The instructions call for 0.15 ppm. Most writers say between 0.15 and 0.20. I have also read that levels should be kept between 0.20 and 0.35. I definitely want to be on the safe side so today I will reduce the copper to 0.20 with a water exchange.

I was scouring the internet to find recommended levels of copper and I ran across Clownfish disease or Brooklynella. Apparently, copper is not a treatment for Brooklynella, Formalin is. So now, I have to treat my poor clownfish for another disease since the symptoms of ich and marine velvet and Brooklynella are all similar. She has actually had 14 days treatment in the copper tank but still has two lesions on her side. Right now the tank has copper and PraziPro in it. Next Saturday will mark three weeks in the copper. At that point I will do a 50% water change, greatly reducing the copper and PraziPro and then treat her with Formalin. If she survives all of the treatment, then she goes in my 40 gal reef tank. From what I've read, formalin is compatible with copper.

To start with I put her in ionic copper (SeaCure) at .25ppm for two weeks then did a 20% water exchange and added the PraziPro per the instructions on the bottle. My plan is to leave her in that for 5 days do a 40 then add formalin. I called the SeaCure (Aquarium Systems) people today and asked if I could use the formalin in the same tank with the copper and PraziPro and they said I could; they were compatible.

hottuna: What has worked well for me is Cupramine + Prazipro. 5-7days later 50% water change, add Cupramine and full dose of Prazipro, after a second 5-7 days a 50% water change and dose back only Cupramine for another 4 weeks. If needed I also use Maracyn II for infections. I always have a couple of QT's going with established biofilters and algae growing for browsers like dwarf angels. You can also keep some biofilter in your main tank and then use that in your QT. ALWAYS check ammonia. Huge killer in QT's. FYI Cupramine can screw up ammonia readings and give false positive. See Seachmes FAQ's. Also DON'T add any water conditioners with Cupramine as it can be a deadly combination.

From everything I've read it is safe and I'm doing it right now in my QT (copper) tank. My clownfish is doing a lot better then she was last week. Friday or Saturday I will do a 40% water exchange and add Formalin and keep her in it for another 5 days. By that time, if she survives, she will be free of everything I can treat her for.
thanks large angels...ever heard of a product called DE-LOS by nat'l fish pharmaceuticals ? I am running that sometimes 4 weeks with cupramine ...with good results...and for extreme cases - do a freshwater dip for 10-12 mins and return the fish to the treatment tank..

"USE: For control of anchor worms, lice, gill flukes and assorted external parasites on freshwater, Koi and marine tropical fish. Toxic to sharks and snails. Do not use on prehistoric fishes such as arowanas, silver dollars, lionfish. Not for use in tanks which contain invertebrates." Are you using this in a QT fish only tank?

As for the copper, the life cycle of the parasites it cures is 14 days. So, in theory, 14 days would be sufficient. Most writers on the subject recommend 21 to 28 days. My own feeling is 21 is sufficient. The tank the fish came out of also has to be treated. If it remains empty of fish for six weeks then most everyone agrees it is a safe tank. Apparently the six weeks have to do with delayed hatching of the parasite's eggs. In addition, I have treated the tank with PraziPro and, when I get it in the mail, I will treat it with Revive. This should take care of everything. I should be getting the Revive in a few days. So the tank the fish came out of will not be safe until May 15. Fortunately, I have a 40 gal tank that should be ready for fish in a week.

You can call them and ask for the MSDS on the product. By law they have to have that.

Its been three days since I started the Formalin treatment in my copper tank. In the tank I now have copper at .20 ppm, PraziPro and Formalin 20 drops every other day for 14 days. The label on the Formalin calls for 2 drops per gallon every other day. My Percula is still alive and seems to be doing well.
