A friend of mine suggested I save some money by buying live saltwater "periwinkles" at the supermarket for food ($0.46 will by seven huge ones as opposed to the $1-2 a piece for medium sized snails at the FLS).
At any rate, I went and bought a bunch, which are either happily cleaning my aquarium right now or have already been eaten by Ghengis-Prawn (I watched in amazement today as he bashed one to pieces).
I just read that these periwinkles are highly suceptible to black-spot (diplopstomiasis). All aritcles I read mention how easy these parasites are to spread, but none of them mention whether invertebrates such as stomadopods can get it?
Anybody have any information on this? Or any other reasons why I shouldn't buy periwinkles or live shrimp at the supermarket to feed my mantis?
Thanks in advance.
JJ.
