Can returns line on AGA 180 be placed on either side?

I was wondering if the return lines on the AGA tank can be placed on either side of the overflow box? I know one hole is smaller, so I suspect that is the return line. I hope this makes sense. Please let me know. Thank you.

For reference, I'd like to know if I can place the loc-line on the opposite sides in this picture.

Depends on the tank. My 180 had corner overflows, so the returns came out the interior sides. In the tank you pictured, there may have been "knock-out" tabs where the return tubing passes out of the overflow box. If the outer tabs are already gone, you may have to replace the outside tabs (super-glue) with the tabs you remove from the inner side.

As for the drilled holes, you are correct that the return hole is usually smaller than the overflow hole. That would make "crossing over" rather difficult, unless you are ordering a custom tank.

Did that make sense?

Yes, that made sense. I wonder why they still have the knock out tab on the other side though? I would think they put it there to give you the option of placing the locline on the other side. I wanted to put sea swirls where the locline is currently coming out. =(
