Hi! I have bad an awkward algae outbreak in my tank recently. I had a problem with diotomes but that has subsided. Now it sort of looks like fuzz but I'm noticing this purple colored "stuff" starting to form where the fuzz used to be. Does anybody have an idea what this purple stuff is? I'm open to any ideas. I can't access your picture, but if it looks hard, it is coralline algae, a calcium carbonate producing algae that grows on reefs. It's quite pretty but is a pain to scrape off your glass. Causes no problems for corals or any life in your tank. If you don't like it, urchins will eat it. Unlike the hair and slime algaes, it is not a sign that your nutrient levels are too high. Sounds like your tank is on the right track.
