Can you normally see through a clam

I guess I have just never noticed a opening on the bottom side of my clam. If you look through the large opening of my crocea you can see all the way through. Normal???
Also can you eat trindacnid clams??? I noticed on Survivior they were catching and boiling what looked like Crocea clams (I was mortified). I just kept thinking "I spent about $400 for your dinner" (they had about 5) Just wondering. Thanks for your time

Yes, you can see though them. Yes, lots of people eat them. Particularly as sushi in Asia. They didn't taste like much much to me though.
