Candy coral

I have a new Candy coral that doesn't seem to be doing that well. Feeder tenticles come out at night but I'm not sure what to feed it. It was more plump in the store but not now. Any I deas what I can do to get it to come back? I have it in moderate water movement under Metal Halides. Thanks

you can feed them just about anything. mysis or brine shrimp. i even cut up large shrimp and feed them. i usually use a syringe with a piece of air line tubing on it and spray food on them.

How long have you had it? It usually takes a few days for them to plump up again.

Hi Ken,

The lighting is probably triggering the coral tissue to retract a little during the day. Most LFS's don't have MH lighting, so it would be normal for the coral to shrink it's tissue. Keep it at the bottom, in a sheltered area, until it adjusts to the change in lighting.
Watch for area's of the skeleton poking through (white calcerous protrusions). Odds are the coral will be fine once it acclimates.

Hi, Ken. I agree with Mac. Feeders at night are a good sign. Place Candy cane coral (Caulastrea) in the lower half of the aquarium and keep your mitts out of the tank!

I feed my Caulastrea a mixture of Brine shrimp, Mysis, and cyclopeze.

The pieces I have up higher in my tank do not expand as big as the pieces in the lower half of the tank. Like Gary and Kevin said, move it down.

Some of the heads have a little skeleton showing, will this heal?

Caulastrea can seemingly come back from the dead if conditions are right.

Is there alot of flow in the area where you have them? If so then thats the issue they needs little or no flow to grow well. I have had several get damaged cause of this. good luck!
