Cannot get possum erases to eat

I've had him for a week now (purchased him from Diver's Den). He is still hiding 80 percent of the time. I've tried target feeding him brine, mysis, marine cuisine, and plankton, but he just stares at the food and lets it float by. Is he still acclimating? There are only very peaceful inhabitants in the tank. Do you think an oyster on the half shell might peak his interest? I'm running out of ideas. Thanks so much for any help!

In a case like that, I'd try some LIVE food like brine shrimp. It often gets the most finicky fish to eat. It's something about the movement. If that works, start mixing the live with the thawed food. It will eventually hit on a thawed piece and realize it's food. Soaking the food in Selcon may help too.

I'd contact DD and let them know he hasn't eaten and see if they will extend the guarantee of offer some assistance. Not sure what their policy is but it couldn't hurt to ask just in case the worse happens. Good luck.

Mine came from DD & I never saw it eat for at least 3 months. He is eating things off the live rock. I don't think it will eat oyster off the half shell, they have such small mouths.

You could add a bottle of eco matter to the tank if you're concerned that there aren't enough pods or critters to eat.

It took mine a while but he eats everything now. It also took mine some time to settle in, now he cruises all over the tank & even in open water. Just be patient.

Mine loves brine and mysis and little else. Do you feed with the flow on or off?

They hunt copepods on the rocks, so if you have any of those, he is probably getting some food that way and can probably last longer than a normal fish without eating your food. Try either live food or feeding with the flow on to elicit a feeding response.

I have a Tanaka's Pygmy Wrasse and a Pink-Streaked Wrasse, the Tanaka likes pods, brine shrimp and mysis. Pink-Streaked eats it all.

You could try some eggs if you can find them. When I had my possum that was his favorite. V2O sells reef caviar and frozen oyster eggs and Rod's food has a frozen egg offering.
