Canon 20d or XTi?

I am just looking to get a decent body for a nifty fifty lens so I can take some macro pics of my corals. I will upgrade eventually, but I am on a student budget now.
If it were you, would you get the Xti or the 20D?
Thanks

First, you're going to have a hard time getting a macro picture with a nifty fifty...

I have no real feelings over picking one of those cameras over the other one. Both are pretty similar. I think the Xti has more megapixel which actually will probably matter in this case because you'll be wanting to crop quite a bit to make it look "zoomed" in like a macro shot. I think all the features the 20D has over the Xti will be useless for indoors reef photography, so I'd go with the Xti.

I don't know much about the xti but the 20D is pretty old/out dated so you should be able to get one DIRT CHEAP. Is it refurbished, because cameras have a certain amount of shutter actuations.

You should look into getting a set of extension tubes. Here is a cheap set:

A 20D, 50 f/1.8 and a set of tubes would be a fun start. Working distance would be a bit of a problem however.

Oh! I was under the impression that the 50mm was a decent macro lens, appearantly not! I know the canon 100mm is the general reccomended lens, but a lot a bit out of my budget.

What is the best super-cheap solution? Assuming I cant take anything decent with the kit lens
