Know this is a dumb question but can you take pictures with the lcd screen and not the view finder?

Sorry - just double checked and the XTi does not. The new XSi does.

the xti doesnt offer this, the xsi does and so does the 40d

...But, all things considered its best to learn how to use the viewfinder. After you learn how to use it you'll never want to use an LCD screen to compose and take your pictures ever again .

On the other hand though - I believe B&H sells something like an LCD screen you can put on the eyepiece. I've heard of them before just never seen one.
