canon led

I have a 40 breeder reef that I am starting and have interest in leds. The Canon 50 and 100 watt led pendants intrigue me but have found hardly anyone who has them since they are new. The new 100 watt version has a wider optic that I've seen is suppose to cover a 2' x 3' area. Just curious if anyone here has used or seen these in action and what they like/dislike about them?

They are POWERFUL! The spread on the 100w is much better than that of the 50w, and more suitable to our rectangular aquariums. I would think a single 100w is going to be about the equivelant of a 400w halide in a good reflector.

So does the canon come in a 50 watt version witht he wider spread lense? Can you get the 50 watt that is dimmable?

The 50w only has the circular, more focused housing right now. They do not have the dimmable power supplier available for them at this time either.

If by chance you don't feel the 50 watt will cover the area well (I'm guessing it could be no for an answer) what would you recommend in a fixture. I was thinking of using a single halide in a reflector but that is kind of "unfinished" by itself. Was looking at the Hamilton Belize fixture for I could get halide, t5s and leds for dawn dusk effect. Probably won't do sps just softies and lps for now. Thanks so far for all your help!

I think you would be fine with a 24" rack, however I'll hook one up and 24" just to be safe for you if you'd like?

As far as halides go, are you wanting a pendant or a full fixture with supplementation?

I would like something for dawn/dusk effect so I guess a halide w/supplementaion, that's why I mentioned the Belize fixture. I was really trying to cut down on electric usage as well as heat by going the led route. The Canon was compact, looked nice and used low watts. I hate to ask you to go through the work of testing the fixture but that would be great! I'm having a tough time actually finding people who are running this light.

I would not recommend the Belize fixture. I purchased one and was very disapointed with the build quality.
